R.E.P.O. continues to grow but it has one major flaw – matchmaking
The launch of R.E.P.O. doesn’t have a matching system, which is disappointing considering the game’s overall quality, as it seems the developers missed their mark.
R.E.P.O., or The Retrieve, Extract, & Profit Operation, has been blowing up for a few weeks already. The co-op horror title, which mimics games such as Lethal Company, has gone viral, taking the world by storm. However, there is definitely a big hole in the title’s release. While most other similar games feature some sort of matchmaking, R.E.P.O. took a different path.
Matchmaking in R.E.P.O. is a no-go
While R.E.P.O. is one of the games which is taking the world by storm currently, it does have a major flaw. With Among Us setting the trend, social deduction cooperative games quickly became a hit a few years ago. Lethal Company, Content Warning, and LOCKDOWN Protocol all following suit, R.E.P.O. has taken control at the top in recent weeks. Unfortunately, all those titles and many more have something that R.E.P.O. missed out on.
Matchmaking. Simply, the game can be played solo or with friends who are invited. This has caused a major rift in those playing the newly viral title.
Hosting or joining a game requires players to invite or join others whom they already have on their friend list. This takes nothing away from the fun that can be found within R.E.P.O. But it does leave a gaping hole in what the game could have been.
It turns out that the developers were surprised by the unexpected success of their game and, as a result, they had to quickly address some issues. In particular, they decided not to include matchmaking at launch because they didn’t want to implement an anti-cheat system at that time. However, they do want players to keep playing and enjoying the game, while also acknowledging that hackers are present in almost every online game. You can see this explanation in the video linked below.
For now, R.E.P.O. will remain without official matchmaking lobbies. With that said, it is still a game that can be played with a huge number of friends. With the developers promising constant updates and new levels already on the cards, the title should continue to prosper. We hope to see matchmaking servers coming to R.E.P.O. in the near future, but for now, we can enjoy becoming the King of the Losers with our friends.
