Quincy Jones’s heartbreaking final post revealed as touching message to his daughter
As a dedicated fan, I find myself deeply moved and overwhelmed by the life journey of Quincy Jones – a musical titan whose contributions to the realm of showbusiness are nothing short of extraordinary. From his humble beginnings to becoming one of the first black executives to thrive in Hollywood, Quincy’s story is one that echoes the spirit of resilience and determination.
Quincy Jones posted a heartbreaking final message to his daughter Martina just hours before he passed away.
The music icon died aged 91 on Sunday night, his family announced in a statement on Monday.
Quincy recently posted on Instagram a heartfelt message for his daughter, Martina, as she celebrated her 58th birthday.
He wrote: ‘Happy Birthday to my Tina Beena @martinafotos1!! So proud to be yo papa! Big hug, I love you eternally’ (sic).
Quincy had a total of seven children: Jolie (age 69), Rachel (age 59), Martina (age 58), Quincy III (age 55), Kidada (age 50), Rashida (age 48), and Kenya (age 31).
The prominent figure in the music industry has been married three times, with each union producing a total of seven offspring across five distinct partnerships.
Back in 2018, Quincy discussed fatherhood and mentioned he looked up to his own father, Quincy Delight Jones, Sr., for inspiration.)
On Father’s Day, he posted on Facebook: “I am eternally thankful to my dad for tirelessly working to provide a home for us during the 1930s Depression…he never abandoned hope for us.
As a committed parent or guardian, I wholeheartedly assert that shaping the kind of bond you desire with your child is entirely in your hands, and it’s always possible to initiate this journey anew.
Quincy remarked: ‘Don’t undervalue your impact on your children’s lives. I discovered this truth somewhat late in life, but I’m incredibly thankful for that realization since becoming a father ranks among the most profound blessings.’
On Sunday, Quincy passed away at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, with his loved ones by his side. This was confirmed by his publicist, Arnold Robinson.
Tonight, with heavy yet fractured hearts, we are compelled to announce the passing of our beloved father and sibling, Quincy Jones.
Moreover, while we deeply mourn his departure, we rejoice in the remarkable life he led, understanding that no one else could ever fill his unique place.
Quincy achieved prominence in the entertainment industry, making a name for himself as one of the initial successful African-American executives in Hollywood, while also creating an exceptional collection of music.
He was responsible for creating the iconic Thriller album by Michael Jackson, and he worked alongside notable artists such as Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles on various projects.
He performed alongside Count Basie and Lionel Hampton, arranged albums for Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, and created music scores for “Roots” and “In the Heat of the Night.
In 1985, Quincy was responsible for coordinating the first inaugural festivities for President Bill Clinton and he also supervised the creation of the charity single “We Are The World,” which aimed to aid Africa’s famine victims by assembling an all-star cast.
Lionel Richie often referred to Quincy Jones as a “skilled conductor” or “talented arranger.
Quincy is likely to be most famously recognized for his collaborations with Michael Jackson. His adaptability and creativity significantly contributed to highlighting Michael’s talents, guiding him from a child prodigy to the “King of Pop.
On iconic songs like “Billie Jean” and “Don’t Stop `Till You Get Enough,” Jones and Jackson skillfully blended elements from disco, funk, rock, pop, R&B, jazz, and African chants to create a sonic landscape that resonated globally.
In the creation of ‘Thriller’, it was Jones who introduced some unforgettable elements. He managed to get Eddie Van Halen to contribute a guitar solo to the song ‘Beat It’, which blended different genres, and he also enlisted Vincent Price for a chilling voiceover on the track titled ‘Thriller’.
In the year 1983, the album titled ‘Thriller’ surpassed sales of more than 20 million copies, a feat that has put it in competition with the Eagles’ ‘Greatest Hits 1971-1975’ for the title of all-time best-selling album.
In a 2016 interview with the Library of Congress, Jones stated that when an album fails to perform, people are quick to blame the producers. Conversely, if an album succeeds, he believes it’s also his responsibility. Essentially, he implied that both success and failure in music production can be attributed to oneself.
‘The tracks don’t just all of a sudden appear. The producer has to have the skill, experience and ability to guide the vision to completion.’
18 pages in his 2001 autobiography ‘Q’ were dedicated to listing his honors and awards, among which were 27 Grammys (currently 28), two Honorary Academy Awards, and an Emmy for ‘Roots,’ along with another Emmy.
Additionally, he was honored with the French Legion of Honor, the Rudolph Valentino Award bestowed by the Italian Republic, and a tribute from the Kennedy Center in recognition of his significant impact on American culture.
He was the subject of a 1990 documentary, ‘Listen Up: The Lives of Quincy Jones’ and a 2018 film by daughter Rashida Jones. His memoir made him a best-selling author.
