Queensland music community mourns shock death of local icon – as fans rally to support his 14-year-old son
On a deeply sad note, the music community in South-Western Queensland was devastated last Friday upon hearing the sudden passing of their beloved local artist, Luke Nash.
Luke, who was recognized for his wedding and pub performances from Warwick to Dalby, has left behind his 14-year-old son named Alakai.
I’m sharing this with a heavy heart, but I wanted to inform everyone that my beloved friend, Luke, has sadly passed away. At this time, we are still working out the details for his funeral service. Please keep him, and us, in your thoughts during this difficult period.
On the Nash Music Facebook page, she expressed her deep sorrow by announcing that the artist known as Nash Nash has sadly passed away today, using his stage name in reference.
In this case, it implies that his upcoming performances will have to be scheduled with other artists instead.
It’s all very unexpected, something we can’t influence. I truly appreciate your patience as we navigate through these challenging circumstances together.
As a devotee of that cherished music maestro, renowned for his enchanting interpretations of popular tunes, I found myself among countless others pouring out our sorrow in the comments section, following the news of his post.
It’s really disheartening to learn about Nash’s demise. Back in 2013, I discovered a deep affection for his music, and my spouse and I often attended performances at the Warwick RSL to enjoy his tunes.
‘He was brilliant. We loved his talent so much that we had him play at our wedding. RIP Nash.
‘I will always remember you for being a great man with an amazing talent for music.
I’m deeply saddened by the news about Nash, and my heart goes out to his loved ones during this challenging period. Please know that you are in my thoughts and I send you my deepest sympathies as you cope with this loss.
In my perspective, he was an extraordinary performer, although his repertoire didn’t include equine tunes. Nonetheless, our affection for him was immense.
The person wrote, ‘Nash, you were incredibly gifted, warm-hearted, and modest to your core. I’ll dearly miss having you around. Thank you for the beautiful music and cherished moments we shared.’
Oh, it’s such a pity for Warwick and Districts. Just last December, we had a chat at the Malt House. You’re truly going to be missed, friend. Your voice will definitely be missed by me.
A person shared: “Sad news indeed, a wonderful man and an exceptional talent taken from us prematurely in the region of Queensland.
Oh dear, it’s truly disheartening to learn this news. Nash won’t be forgotten at The Bun, such a gifted and exceptional individual he was. My sincerest sympathies go out to Nash’s family during this difficult time.
In a generous gesture, local musician Andrew Kucks volunteered to perform at the pubs that had previously scheduled Luke for their shows following his unexpected passing.
He mentioned that he was tasked with creating a message to offer assistance for those impacted by the current challenging circumstances, as many had scheduled events featuring Nash for performances.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, and I’ll make an effort to assist in organizing and managing his performances. In any way that I can support the family during this difficult period, I am ready to help.
‘We musicians stick together for our mates.’
Luke’s ex-partner, Tiffany, has established a GoFundMe campaign to gather funds for Luke’s funeral expenses, as well as to provide financial assistance for his son, Alakai, in the future.
Tiff remarked that she and Nash were the ones who brought their lovely 14-year-old son, Alakai, into the world. Every week, Alakai, whom Nash cherished deeply and held dear, was with us.
‘Sadly as you are all aware Nash suddenly passed away on Friday the 10th of January 2025.
‘As you could imagine this time is extremely hard for Nash’s family, myself and especially Alakai.
‘His loss has left such a impact that we are still coming to terms with it all.
Following numerous recommendations from friends of mine suggesting we launch a GoFundMe campaign, I humbly stepped forward to appeal for assistance. The aim is twofold: firstly, to alleviate some of the lingering financial burdens that inevitably follow in the wake of someone’s passing. But more importantly, this fundraiser is about ensuring a bright future for Alakai, a cause that holds utmost significance for me.
If you’ve met Nash, then you likely understand that he was incredibly kind and authentic, making him one of the most genuine individuals you could encounter.
‘Nash was incredibly generous, ready to offer his very last shirt or penny to anyone in need, even if it left him with nothing. He consistently prioritized the needs of others over his own.’
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but echo the deepest affection that Nash held for his one and only son, Alakai. This young soul was the very essence of Nash’s universe. To honor Nash’s heartfelt wish, I humbly ask you to join me in supporting Alakai’s future. Together, we can make a difference and keep his father’s legacy alive.
The GoFundMe has currently raised $2,270 of its $4,500 target with 28 donations made so far.
A close acquaintance of Luke’s, Emma Hope, has arranged a memorial and fundraising gathering scheduled for February 23 at the Blue Mountain Hotel.
