Queens of the Stone Age cancels remainder of 2024 shows due to Josh Homme’s illness
As a seasoned rock critic with a soft spot for bands that hail from the sun-drenched deserts of California, I’ve followed Queens of the Stone Age‘s journey with great admiration. Their music has been the soundtrack to many a road trip through the desert landscapes, and Josh Homme’s raw talent and charisma have always been at the heart of it all.
The band Queens of the Stone Age has announced that they are cancelling all their remaining concerts scheduled for 2024, as a result of lead vocalist Josh Homme’s persistent health problems.
“The QOTSA team sadly shared news on their social media platforms last Friday, stating that they must cancel or reschedule all their upcoming shows in 2024 due to Josh’s necessity to focus on his wellbeing and receive urgent medical treatment throughout the year.”
Events scheduled in Boston, Cincinnati, and Madison, Wisconsin have been moved to next year. The band’s performances at various music festivals – such as Soundside Music Festival, Mempho Music Festival, Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City – have been called off completely. Those who purchased tickets for QOTSA shows will be notified by the original sales outlet regarding new dates, and festival attendees are encouraged to check the specific event websites for the most recent updates.
A representative for the band declined to comment further Friday.

51-year-old individual, originally from Palm Desert, kicked off his musical journey within the same city, revealed a cancer diagnosis in 2022. However, following surgery, they reportedly have made a successful recovery.
In early July, the band temporarily halted their European tour, allowing the lead singer to urgently travel back to America for an emergency operation. The details surrounding this surgery, including whether it was connected to his cancer diagnosis, have not been disclosed.
“Despite our best efforts, we are unable to carry on with the planned summer tour. This was the message shared by our alt-rock group on their social media platform.”
Due to their lead singer-guitarist’s departure, the band (which includes guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, bassist Michael Shuman, keyboardist Dean Fertita, and drummer Jon Theodore) has had to call off its performances at festivals in France, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Romania, Croatia, and Greece.
Approximately a week prior to their scheduled performance, the “No One Knows” and “The Way You Used to Do” band regretfully pulled out of Italy’s AMA Festival, citing illness as the reason for their absence. However, they did not specify in their announcement who exactly was unwell.
On Friday, the band expressed gratitude for everyone’s support and shared experiences over the past year, stating that they hope to reunite with everyone in 2025.
