Punisher Disney+ Set Photo Reveals First Look At Villain

In a fresh snapshot from the filming of “The Punisher”, viewers were given an initial sneak peek at the Marvel villain appearing in the upcoming Disney+ special. After a prolonged hiatus since his time on Netflix, Jon Bernthal’s gritty anti-hero, The Punisher, is poised to take center stage like never before. The iconic character, Frank Castle/Punisher, will star in an exclusive Marvel Special Presentation next year, picking up from the storyline of “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 1.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the “Punisher” special is being filmed right now in the bustling city of New York! The first glimpses from the Marvel Studios set have already started trickling out. For us Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans, this one-off streaming tale will continue the journey of Bernthal’s brutal yet compelling character, but with a twist – he’s said to be confronting a foe unlike any he’s faced before. Rumors are swirling that in this series, The Punisher will lock horns with a formidable female crime lord, and some believe this could be the chilling Ma Gnucci, a character straight out of Marvel comic books. Can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

With recent snapshots from the Disney+ special, viewers have been afforded a glimpse of the new female crime lord antagonist in the Punisher series.

In the rapidly shared online posts, there’s an image of Bernthal’s character, The Punisher, facing off against a woman sitting in a wheelchair on what appears to be a busy New York City street.

Although the identity of the person in the wheelchair isn’t explicitly stated in the pictures, it seems highly likely that we’re looking at none other than Ma Gnucci, a legendary criminal mastermind known from Marvel Comics.

It appears that the Gnucci family, previously mentioned in other parts of the Punisher series, was showcased on a restaurant sign during filming. This suggests that their role may be significant, perhaps even making them the main antagonist in the upcoming special episode, with Ma being particularly notable among them.

Next year, I’m excited to witness the premiere of a special presentation of ‘The Punisher’ on Disney+. In this standalone event, I’ll join Jon Bernthal as he portrays Frank Castle, a relentless vigilante from the Netflix ‘Daredevil’ universe, battling a burgeoning criminal menace in New York City. This streaming special will also pave the way for Frank’s return in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2.

Who Is Ma Gnucci From Punisher?

It’s quite likely that, if Ma Gnucci appears as the antagonist in the special presentation, fans might wonder about her background and significance, given the hints from the set photos.

Isabella Gnucci, for quite some time now, has been known as a formidable adversary to Marvel Comics’ anti-hero, The Punisher. She first appeared in March 2000, taking on the role of a ruthless crime boss in New York City and head of the influential Gnucci family.

After Frank Castle murders her sons as a means to disassociate himself from his criminal past, Ma swears retribution against the bulletproof vigilante.

After a fierce confrontation with The Punisher at the New York Zoo, Ma ends up in the polar bear enclosure, narrowly escaping being devoured by the bears. This incident results in her being wheelchair-bound, without arms or legs, and her hatred towards Frank Castle deepens even more.

In a previous appearance within the television adaptation of Daredevil, the Gnucci family was introduced, notably in the Punisher Netflix series. There, the character portrayed by Jon Bernthal, an anti-villain, brutally eliminated the Gnucci crime syndicate.

Undeniably, I find myself preparing for the 2026 Special Presentation of this character, where Ma is poised and determined to mete out justice and seek retribution against the Punisher for his assault on the Gnucci family.
