PUBG Owner Krafton Acquires Tango Gameworks and Hi-Fi Rush IP
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the recent acquisition of Tango Gameworks by Krafton is music to my ears! Having played some of Tango’s masterpieces like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, I can’t wait to see what fresh and exciting experiences they bring next.
Today, Krafton, the owner of PUBG, officially announced their purchase of Tango Gameworks. This move comes after the studio’s dissolution, which was a result of cost-cutting measures implemented by Xbox at Bethesda Softworks earlier this year.
Krafton refers to this action as their “initial substantial investment within the Japanese video game industry.” This transaction grants them the license for Tango’s vibrant rhythm-action hack ‘n’ slash game titled “Hi-Fi Rush“. Established in 2010 by the creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami (who later left the studio in 2023), Tango Gameworks has produced several games including The Evil Within and its sequel, as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush.
According to a statement by Krafton, they plan to work together with Xbox and ZeniMax in their strategic partnership. This collaboration is aimed at facilitating a seamless transition at Tango Gameworks and preserving the ongoing development of the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property, as well as enabling the skilled team to pursue additional projects in the future.
Krafton plans to empower Tango Gameworks to carry on their mission of innovation and offering unique gaming experiences for fans. This decision won’t affect the availability of games like The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the initial Hi-Fi Rush game. These titles will continue to be accessible in all the places they are currently sold.
“The combination of Krafton and Tango Gameworks underscores Krafton’s commitment to broadening its worldwide presence and improving their collection with fresh, top-tier content. This union signifies a tactical match that aligns with Krafton’s goal to explore the limits of digital entertainment.”
