As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the forthcoming “Blue B” spin-off, titled “Boston Blue,” has just added another brilliant actor to its roster. After an incredible journey lasting over a decade, “Blue Bloods” bid farewell on CBS after 14 seasons. In February, word came out that a spinoff of this gripping police procedural was in the works at the network, with Donnie Wahlberg stepping back into his role as Danny Reagan. However, it’s important to note that he’ll be joining a primarily new cast for this exciting new chapter.
It’s been officially announced that Maggie Lawson, who was famously seen as Juliet O’Hara in the popular crime comedy-drama series “Psych”, is now part of the main cast for the upcoming spinoff titled “Boston Blue”. She will be starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and previously confirmed actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Ernie Hudson. In this new role, Lawson takes on the character of a high-ranking officer in the Boston Police Department, specifically, the Superintendent.
What The Latest Cast Addition Means For Boston Blue
It’s A Family Affair

In his new role, Wahlberg’s character switches from NYPD Officer Danny Reagan to a member of the Boston Police Department. He’s teamed up with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), who hails from a prominent law enforcement family. Sarah Silver (Lawson), the Superintendent in the Boston Police Department, is his superior, and she’s both confident and the stepsister of Lena, navigating the delicate balance between her family and her professional duties.
Ernie Hudson’s character, Reverend Peters, serves as the final link in the family connection. He is the father of Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney, and grandfather to Detective Lena Silver, Sarah Silver (Lawson), and rookie patrol officer Isaac Silver. Some roles are still unconfirmed, but this setup for the spinoff shifts the family focus from the original series to a new dynamic.
Our Take On How Boston Blue Is Shaping Up
It Has The Right Stuff

The upcoming series, co-produced by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer TV, helmed by showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis as executive producers, deviates from the established long-running police procedural format. However, with Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg himself serving as executive producers, along with director Anthony Hemingway, there is a strong sense of continuity. Moreover, while the storyline may continue, the Boston Blue family might face unique issues and challenges that will distinguish this new drama from the Reagan family’s saga in its predecessor.
