Prue Leith shares what happened when she served tea to Queen Elizabeth II

As a gamer with a penchant for British history and a soft spot for entertaining tales, I find myself utterly captivated by Prue Leith’s anecdote of serving tea to Queen Elizabeth II. The sheer nerve it takes to pour a cup of tea for royalty is nothing short of heroic in my book!

In a fascinating life filled with numerous experiences, Prue Leith has encountered many things. One such experience, which she recently discussed, was linked to the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

On the GBBO Instagram account, Leith posted about his experience serving tea to the queen, and it appears this encounter could have easily turned into a blunder.

Initially, Prue Leith made every effort to prepare a flawless cup of tea for Queen Elizabeth, even going as far as phoning her equerry to discover her preferred method of taking tea. Regrettably, he failed to disclose the way the queen took her tea, but did provide instructions on what should be included on the serving tray to ensure proper service.

As Leith explained, the tray was equipped with all the necessary items for an ideal cup of tea, such as milk and lemons. Despite her efforts to prepare a delightful cup of tea for the queen, the situation soon turned sour.

In the scenario, Prue Leith assumed that since the queen didn’t ask for milk in her tea and instead desired lemon, it was logical to offer her tea with lemon. However, when the queen received the tea, she expressed that she didn’t want lemon after all. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a spare cup available, so the lemon had to be removed from the cup. Additionally, the queen requested a strong cup of tea, but what was served fell short of her expectations.

Rather than pouring her a flawless cup of tea, it turned out to be a tart lemon-infused, diluted black tea instead – an accident that could happen to any of us. To learn more about the mishap while attempting to serve Queen Elizabeth II a cup of tea, take a look at Prue Leith’s video below:

frankly, it’s great that Prue chose to recount this story as a series of comical blunders. It’s the sort of incident that might prompt us to seclude ourselves for extended periods (possibly even longer than just months), and we’d typically be reluctant to discuss such events with anyone. However, her decision to openly share her experience with both her audience and Great British Baking Show fans is something truly admirable, which we wholeheartedly appreciate.

What do you say fellow banterers? Are you surprised by this tea story from Prue?
