Prue Leith, 80, says she is taking life in her stride and is ‘so near the end’ that she has become ‘more reckless’
As an avid follower and admirer of Prue Leith, her vivacious spirit and zest for life are truly inspiring. At 80 years old, she embodies the saying “age is just a number” with her audacity to take on new adventures and push boundaries.
Prue Leith is gracefully adapting, confessing on Tuesday that with age, she’s grown more daring.
80-year-old The Bake Off celebrity quipped that she’s “almost at the finish line,” so if something seems enjoyable, she’s ready to take a shot at it.
In September, Prue decided to make a change, swapping her vibrant ensembles and eyeglasses for an eye-catching PVC style, as she strutted the runway at the Vin + Omi show during London Fashion Week.
In conversation with Heat magazine about stepping out of her comfort zone in cooking, she said, “Since I’m very close to finishing my projects, I feel a bit bolder these days. After all, what’s the maximum that could go wrong?
If I were offered a position on Bake Off, I might opt for a more traditional attire instead of strutting down a catwalk in Latex with gothic makeup. However, that ship has sailed now. If I still wish to do it and find the idea enjoyable, I can’t help but think, why not give it a try?
Prue was stunning in a sleek, racy dress made of black lace and fastened with ties, pairing it with black leather sneakers and leather gloves to complete the look.
She sported a striking, smoky-eyed look and vivid red lips while confidently walking the catwalk.
Prue also revealed that she can no longer do gardening in her free time as she is getting ‘old’ and finds it ‘too tiring’.
She mentioned that she used to engage in extensive gardening activities, but these days she doesn’t participate as often due to the increased risk of falling (because of her age) and fatigue.
Presently, Prue is once again gracing our screens as she teams up with Paul Hollywood for the fifteenth installment of The Great British Baking Show.
Previously, Prue confessed that she nearly declined applying to fill Mary Berry’s role in the beloved program because she was concerned she might not meet the ‘diversity requirements’.
The star has been a judge on the cooking competition since she replaced Mary in 2016.
Nevertheless, it almost didn’t turn out this way, for Prue had initially dismissed the notion entirely.
Back in the 1970s, it turns out these ladies already knew one another. This became clear when an old photograph surfaced, featuring them alongside broadcaster Jack de Manio (1914-1988).
In an interview with the Sliding Doors podcast hosted by Jennie Becker, Prue shared her experience: “When I learned that Mary Berry wouldn’t continue in her role, I couldn’t resist the opportunity. The idea had started to cross my mind, and as soon as I realized she was stepping down, I thought to myself: ‘What a wonderful job that would be!’ However, I initially pushed the idea aside.
I mused to myself, “Perhaps they’d select a younger candidate, maybe even an Asian chef, to check off all the diversity requirements. Yet surprisingly, they picked me instead.
As someone utterly captivated, let me share a bit about my extraordinary journey. With an astonishing 11-year stint gracing the table of Great British Menu as a judge, each dish I’ve tasted has been a complex symphony of flavors – a whopping ten tastes on a single plate! That makes Bake Off seem like a walk in the park.
“A single bite of that cake offers you the icing, the creamy center, and the soft crumbs. Being acquainted with the elite chefs and operating a Michelin-starred restaurant myself, I am quite familiar with culinary artistry at that caliber.
