Proud Father: Eddie McGuire Poses with NFL Champion Son
During a recent visit to the U.S., Eddie McGuire appeared every bit the delighted father as he watched his blossoming NFL player son, Joe.
The well-known television figure, aged 60, was spotted grinning with his son next to him during a visit to the Ohio State Football Stadium, prior to a significant match.
Eddie, wearing a zipped-up dark down coat and jeans of the same hue, stood proudly alongside his son, who was clearly destined for greatness in sports, donning a red football jersey adorned with the number 42.
In a touching moment, father and son celebrated a significant event together on the football field, symbolizing a key achievement in Joe’s professional journey as a successful NFL college athlete.
In the photograph, it was evident that Joe, at 24 years old, stood taller than his father. His well-built figure was visible, showcasing his physical fitness.
Eddie, who’s always been there for his son, can’t help but feel an immense sense of pride seeing Joe excel and build a reputation in his field.
It was clear that the McGuire family shared a strong connection as they all stood united outside the stadium, with Eddie radiating pride, while Joe’s promising future shone brightly.
Eddie McGuire is well-known in Australian Rules Football, leading his son to seek individual recognition in football by pursuing a career outside the AFL in Australia.
Growing up much like other children in Melbourne, Joe McGuire spent his days playing Australian Rules football and cricket. With a father who was once the head of Collingwood and a popular Football Show host, it appeared that a career in the Australian Football League (AFL) was in his future.
Rather than taking that route, he opted for a distinctly separate path and is currently in his second year with the Ohio State Buckeyes, one of the largest university football teams in the U.S.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been joined by my fellow Australian, Nick McLarty, in supporting the Buckeyes. Our unique Aussie perspective adds an exciting twist to this esteemed team. This unlikely partnership was forged during the Covid-19 pandemic through a serendipitous conversation.
One day during the pandemic, a friend of mine approached me and suggested, “You have a good leg, why not give Prokick Australia a try?” That’s what Joe mentioned to me.
Currently, an exceptional player with his dominant right foot has fought his way onto a team that boasts eight national titles and performs before a passionate crowd of over 100,000 fans at their stadium in Ohio.
Now, you understand why he chose to forgo the AFL and instead pursue a sport in which merely 6.5% of high school football players progress to the NCAA college level.

He expressed to News Corp that given the current state of the world, some individuals might assume that any actions he took in Melbourne were influenced by his father.
‘Regardless of who your father is, what truly matters is your dedication and skill. If you don’t work hard and prove yourself worthy, there’s simply no chance you’ll make the team for a prestigious school like this.’
His father was surprised by his journey, but highly supportive.
Eddie remarked that it was quite remarkable to see his son attempt something so seemingly unconventional, like pursuing an extraordinary dream.
‘He literally started from scratch, and now he’s playing in front of 100,000 every week.’
