Actress Bella Ramsey, known for her role in The Last of Us, admitted to having strong feelings during the production of season two on HBO Max, fueling speculation about a potential romance with co-star Maisy Stella.

21 (the actor), who revealed their diagnosis of autism while filming the initial season of the popular show, gave a brief insight into their romantic life in an interview with British Vogue for its April 2025 edition.

In the interview with the specified outlet, Ramsey – who identifies with they/them pronouns – expressed that they were deeply in love while working on the forthcoming season of The Last of Us. This season is scheduled to premiere on April 13, next month.

Despite the star not providing more specifics, Bella shared insights about how Ellie’s storyline in season two mirrored her own personality.

As reported by British Vogue, character Ellie is set to cultivate romantic feelings towards her friend Dina (portrayed by Isabela Merced) in upcoming episodes. During the filming process, actor Ramsey shared his thoughts, stating, ‘Experiencing that on set was truly remarkable.’

As a lifestyle aficionado, I find myself reflecting on the intriguing rumors that surfaced last year regarding a budding connection between a Game of Thrones alum and someone named Stella, who, like myself, is in her twenties. The spark ignited when we both expressed interest in each other’s captivating Instagram posts by liking and commenting on them.

In the autumn of 2024, I shared a heartfelt moment with my buddy Ramsey on my Instagram Stories. The snapshot captured us in a warm embrace, beaming from ear to ear, as we posed charmingly against an outdoor backdrop.

The Actress from Years Past also posted a birthday message to honor the celebrity on the occasion of their 21st birthday.

Next to a picture of Bella, Stella wrote the caption: ‘Stunningly beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Happy Birthday to the coolest, coziest, most extraordinary person ever imagined.’

During a previous conversation with Elle in 2023, the British-born actor shared their thoughts on using ‘descriptors.’

They shared that they’ve given themselves certain identifiers, but they’re cautious when it comes to openly discussing them in public, as there are aspects they’re still getting comfortable with and working out.

To be honest, I believe I might have solved it. However, what I mean is, I’m trying to get accustomed to it and make it feel like my own.

Ramsey added, ‘I deeply admire individuals who openly express their identities, as I consider such courage. However, at this point in my life, I’m not quite ready to do the same publicly.’

2023 saw Bella expressing uncommon views on their sexuality during an interview with British Vogue, a departure from their previous discussions.

At that point, they, Hilda, made it clear to the media outlet that they identify as something other than exclusively heterosexual.

The actor expressed, “Your identity is always changing and developing, but it seems clear to many that I’m not strictly heterosexual. I prefer to describe myself as ‘wavy,’ if you catch my drift.

As a young adult at 19, navigating relationships has become an integral part of my journey and exploration in life.

Managing relationships can be quite intricate, and when your life is under scrutiny, it only gets more challenging as people feel entitled to share their opinions about them.

In 2022, Bella revealed their non-binary identity, yet they expressed worry earlier about being perceived as merely jumping on a trend.

‘Although it’s a concise method, using “they” to describe myself feels incredibly accurate. Now, I can express this more openly; being referred to as “they” reflects my true identity best.’

During a conversation with Advocate last year, Maisy also shared her thoughts on labels, stating, ‘I believe labels can be complex. My upbringing was fortunate, and it’s something not everyone experiences.’

I’ve never felt compelled to define myself using labels, and my identity has always been authentic. I’ve always been open about who I am and my orientation has always been queer. However, nothing about my identity was ever imposed upon me.

Ramsey is gearing up for the debut of The Last of Us Season 2, set to premiere on HBO Max starting from April 13 in the coming month.

In the series, both Bella and Pedro Pascal will take on their respective roles again; Bella as Ellie, and Pedro as Joel.

Among the newcomers who’ve recently joined our stellar lineup are Isabela Merced, Kaitlyn Dever, Young Mazino, and Tati Gabrielle – all of whom I am eagerly looking forward to working with!

At a recent interview with Screen Rant during the SXSW Festival in Austin this March, Ramsey hinted at developments in the romantic dynamics between Ellie and Joel that fans can anticipate in the upcoming season.

It appears that trust problems have arisen between them, placing them in an unfamiliar position compared to their usual dynamic together. They elaborated on this point.

In this new season, you will discover the reasons behind it, and those aspects are delved into more deeply. When we first encounter Ellie, she is 17 years old; she has grown significantly since we last saw her at age 14.

In addition, Merced conversed with the same media source regarding assuming the character of Dina together with Bella for season two, which somewhat resembled actual events.

‘I consider myself quite fortunate to possess Bella, and I believe Ellie is equally blessed to have Dina. It’s like they are each other’s rock, ready to stand firm and fight for one another when needed, enduring hardships together after nine months in cold conditions, braving all sorts of weather.’

Craig Mazin, the showrunner, talked about crafting Season Two, based on the popular video game sequel known as The Last of Us Part II.

He mentioned that, as for the approach, we’ll stick with what worked in season one. However, he clarified that when it comes to the story, we select elements that we want to keep consistent.

Later on, Mazin mentioned, ‘You might want to be prepared for the unforeseen. Not everything we do will follow your expectations. Occasionally, we may carry out what you anticipated, but in a different manner or at a different moment.’
