Project R.I.S.E developers now feel “confident” after major rebuild, here’s what was revealed ahead of the next beta

Story Highlights

  • Project R.I.S.E developers rebuilt core gameplay systems after cancelling the November 2025 Beta.
  • New Tower paths now offer structured climbs, better matchmaking, and predictable session lengths.
  • Hero kits are deeper now, though Beta launches with only six heroes available.

It’s been six months since the cancellation of the “Barely Beta” test, which was a letdown for many fans, including myself, who were eager to play the game. Now, the Project R.I.S.E team has released a thorough development update, and the news is much more encouraging this time around.

The development team acknowledged that the version they were planning to release for beta testing last year had significant structural problems, leading them to cancel the test. However, after taking time to rebuild key parts of the game, they now have more confidence in its overall direction.

Gameplay changes coming to Project R.I.S.E with the upcoming beta

So, the developers told me the basic gameplay isn’t changing, which is good! They’re really confident in the game’s base though, and seem to be building for the long haul, which is awesome to hear. It sounds like they’re planning to support and improve it for a while, and that gives me a lot of hope!

The Tower Structure has been completely redesigned

Before the next beta release, we’re excited to announce a big improvement to the Tower. Originally, Project R.I.S.E. focused on a single, never-ending climb. Now, players will be able to choose from different paths with varying difficulty levels before they begin.

The challenges are categorized as Brave, Heroic, and Legendary, with increasing difficulty. These correspond to climbs of 5, 15, and extended lengths, respectively. We plan to tackle them in separate sessions, as the Legendary climb is significantly longer than the others.

This update addresses a major problem in the Alpha version: players leaving during a run. Now, once a group begins a climb, all players will complete it together. The game also now matches players based on the difficulty level they choose, rather than how far they’ve already progressed.

The team has confirmed they’re still planning an endless Tower mode, but it will be a difficult challenge for players who have already progressed far in the game, rather than being a central part of the gameplay.

Hero Kits are now “deeper than ever”

Previously, upgrading your character meant choosing fixed improvements before each playthrough, with little opportunity to adapt during the game. Last year, the developers experimented with Trinkets and Spells as a replacement, but they realized it diminished what made each hero unique and special.

All heroes now have three basic attacks: a Light Attack, a Heavy Attack, and a special Skill. However, the game gets more interesting as you progress and unlock upgrades. These upgrades change how heroes play – for instance, Archers can fire arrows that automatically seek out enemies after using their Skill, Valkyries can create a powerful slam after spinning, and Barbarians can call in extra Barbarians to fight alongside them.

Beta launch with fewer heroes

A significant update to the game’s heroes means the initial Beta release will feature a slightly smaller selection of characters. Players will be able to choose from six heroes: Barbarian, Archer, Valkyrie, Firecracker, Bomber, and Goblin Brawler.

Fan-favorite heroes like Countess and Fisherman, as well as recently announced characters including P.E.K.K.A., Battle Machine, Hog Rider, Bandit, and Hunter, are still being worked on. The development team prefers to take extra time and polish these heroes rather than release them prematurely in an incomplete state.

Even with the big updates, some features we’ve already shared are still happening. You’ll still be able to compete on leaderboards, and we’re keeping voice chat, hero skins, and the season shop in the game.

When will the next Project R.I.S.E beta release

We don’t have a new test date yet, but development is still moving forward and the next playable version should be available soon. I’ll let you know when I have more information.
