Project Hail Mary Box Office Extends Amazon’s Record-Breaking Run With Minuscule Week 2 Drop

The movie Project Hail Mary is continuing to perform exceptionally well, maintaining strong ticket sales in its second week of release in the United States.

The new science fiction film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian. According to Deadline, Project Hail Mary is expected to make $53.1 million this weekend, bringing its total domestic box office earnings to that amount after its second weekend in theaters. This is the second-highest second-weekend gross ever for a movie that isn’t part of an existing franchise, following only Avatar in 2009 ($75.6 million). The film is also performing incredibly well, with ticket sales dropping by only 34% from its opening weekend – a remarkably small decrease that places it among the top 200 films of all time in that metric.
