Project 007 Production Going ‘Amazingly Well’ Says IO, As a Reveal Seems Tantalisingly Far Off
As a seasoned gamer who vividly remembers the thrill of GoldenEye 007 back in ’97, the prospect of a new James Bond game from IO Interactive has me positively giddy! Having grown up with the suave spy and countless video games, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement at the thought of a fresh take on this iconic character.
Previously expressed in 2021, Hitman developer IO Interactive has reaffirmed their optimism towards Project 007, the studio’s James Bond video game, marking their first foray into the franchise since 007 Legends in 2012. Consistent with earlier statements, IO is confident that the game will initiate a trilogy, offering an “original storyline” featuring a younger Bond character.
According to IO boss Hakan Abrak, speaking to IGN, what makes this project captivating is that we were able to create an entirely new tale. Unlike a game based on a movie, it’s not a re-enactment or gamification. Instead, it’s the inception and development of a story, with aspirations for it to potentially evolve into a grand trilogy in the future.
Equally captivating, we’re introducing a fresh take on the classic Bond. This is a Bond we’ve developed from scratch specifically for gamers. It promises an incredibly thrilling experience, blending tradition, history, and innovation. We’re delighted to collaborate with our gaming community in shaping this young Bond. A Bond that gamers can claim as their own, grow with, and make their own legacy.
Abrak acknowledges the influence of Rare’s 1997 title, GoldenEye 007, on their upcoming Project 007. They aim to recreate the magic and nostalgia that GoldenEye evoked for many gamers, including themselves. As Abrak stated, “Many consider GoldenEye as a classic, and I’m one of them too.
He mentioned, “I’d rather not overstate it, but I truly hope we’re working on something groundbreaking that will significantly shape James Bond in gaming for the future. Not just a single game, but an entire universe that gamers can claim as their own and we can expand upon, complementing the Bond films.
Regarding any official unveiling of Project 007, gameplay details (possibly a release date too), Abrak is staying silent on the matter. “I don’t have news today,” he shared, “but trust me, I’m just as eager to discuss it soon.
Abrak shared that everything is moving according to our plans. The production process is progressing exceptionally well, and we can’t wait to share more exciting details about it soon. While I wasn’t able to reveal much this time, there are many interesting developments on the horizon. We too are brimming with excitement, and as soon as we’re ready, we’ll be sharing more!
Here’s hoping we hear more about Project 007 sooner, rather than later.
