Professor Huyang returns to Star Wars TV in Young Jedi Adventures

Professor Huyang returns to Star Wars TV in Young Jedi Adventures

As a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast with a knack for history and a soft spot for quirky characters, I can’t help but feel utterly thrilled about the return of Professor Huyang! This ancient droid, voiced by the brilliant David Tennant, has been weaving his way through the Star Wars universe for ages, and it’s truly fascinating to see him in action.

As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share the news that Professor Huyang, the beloved droid brought to life by David Tennant, is set to reappear on our screens ahead of Ahsoka Season 2! You might remember him from The Clone Wars Season 5 episode “A Test of Strength,” where he guided a group of young Jedi in crafting their lightsabers – a role he’s been performing for countless years. In fact, he made his live-action debut in Ahsoka Season 1!

As we eagerly anticipate Season 2 of Ahsoka, Huyang is back on Star Wars TV screens in the fourth episode of Young Jedi Adventures Season 2. Just like before, Tennant provides his voice for the character. In “Nubs’s Big Mistake,” a charming youngling Jedi named Nubs stumbles upon the ancient lightsaber of Jedi Master Barabo, who shares the same species as Nubs (a Pooba). Curious Nubs then takes Barabo’s lightsaber to Huyang, who mends it.

As a devoted fan, I’ve stumbled upon an exciting revelation! The comprehensive guide “Star Wars: Timelines” confirms that Huyang is more than 25,000 years old. However, in the chronological tale of Star Wars, “Young Jedi Adventures” marks his earliest appearance to date. Although he was hinted at in previous tales set during the High Republic era, such as “The Rising Storm” by Cavan Scott and “Shadows of Starlight” #1 by Charles Soule, this is the first story within this era where he’s actually made an appearance. Can’t wait to see more of Huyang in the future!

A fitting tale for Huyang to join is the “Young Jedi Adventures,” since it focuses on young Jedi and he was ideally suited for an installment featuring an ancient lightsaber. We can expect him to reappear in future episodes too, as Yoda hinted at this in the episode by saying to Nubs, “One day, you will learn to craft your own lightsaber.”

As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’ve been captivated by the standalone tale that is “Young Jedi Adventures.” Despite its self-contained nature, it masterfully weaves connections to the broader lore in intriguing and impactful ways. The introduction of Huyang is a testament to this, and hearing Tennant’s voice and experiencing Huyang through the unique animation style of “Young Jedi Adventures” was nothing short of exhilarating. Tennant won an Emmy for his role as Huyang in “The Clone Wars,” so here’s hoping he’ll reprise it for this series, too!

For over 25,000 years, Huyang has been around, making him significantly older than Yoda, who was only 900 when he died in “Return of the Jedi.” Interestingly, Huyang is a unique character who features in tales from the High Republic era, the Clone Wars, and the early period of the New Republic.

He even has potential to appear in James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie as that takes place 25,000 years before A New Hope. Huyang can currently appear in and connect more eras of Star Wars than any other character.
