Professor Green has discussed the difficulties he faced after his breakup with Karima McAdams, revealing his own experiences with substance abuse and offering support to single fathers going through similar challenges.
The 41-year-old British rapper recently opened up about the difficulties of raising his five-year-old son, Slimane, sharing that he’s missed important moments like bedtime and revealing how his fame nearly overwhelmed him.
He recently shared a heartfelt message with his fans, urging men facing similar challenges to talk about their struggles and seek support.
Speaking from his car, he explained that he’s in a risky situation, as men going through similar circumstances often are. He specifically addressed fathers who are separated, or going through a separation, from their child’s mother.
Stephen Manderson, known as Green, shared that he struggled with a series of harmful choices. He admitted to making bad decisions regarding his attempts to cope with difficult situations, including substance abuse and isolating himself, which ultimately led to a near-fatal crisis.
I didn’t want my son to experience the same emotional pain I did, which stemmed from my inability to cope with my own feelings.

Losing a parent is never easy, and I was deeply affected when my father, Peter, passed away in 2008. I was only 24 at the time, and sadly, we hadn’t been close for several years before that. It was a really difficult time, to say the least.
He explained that while he could detail everything happening at the time and how it unfolded, it wouldn’t excuse their actions or shift the blame to anyone else. He took full responsibility, admitting the choices were his own and that he was struggling to manage things.
If I felt better about myself, I could have handled things differently and helped improve the situation, instead of making it harder for everyone, including myself.
Earlier this month, Professor Green admitted to dangerously combining alcohol and drugs, a decision that could have been fatal.
He confessed that during a particularly difficult time, he returned to a hotel and took four Valium after… a period he’d rather not recall.
My friend brought up something important, and I realized I’d been acting foolishly. He pointed out I could have been seriously hurt, and I admitted he was right.
That was a really difficult moment for me, because my father died by suicide. I had always vowed that would never happen to me.
In a recent video, he advised other fathers: ‘Guys, it’s important to acknowledge your emotions. If you want to be a truly strong man, don’t avoid your feelings—sit with them and process them.’

Avoid destructive coping mechanisms. Don’t turn to things like gambling, alcohol, drugs, or pornography to numb your feelings. While they might offer a temporary escape, that’s the core issue – the relief doesn’t last, and each time it gets even shorter.
He finished by encouraging everyone to voice their opinions, find a supportive environment where they can be honest, and ensure their needs will be heard.
Professor Green and Karima began dating in July 2019, and he proposed seven months after their son, Slimane, was born.
Karima is an actress famous for her role in the spy thriller Deep State, where she appeared with Joe Dempsie, known for Game of Thrones. She has Moroccan and Irish heritage.
Professor Green and Karima ended their engagement in 2023, but they’ve remained friendly while raising their son together.
The Read All About It hitmaker emotionally shared the struggles of co-parenting his young son.
He discussed missing out on bedtime and birthdays as a result of his separation from Karima.
He confessed that co-parenting was incredibly difficult. He especially felt it was hard on the child, who missed having both parents together – things like bedtime cuddles or just being in the same place at the same time.

It’s hard when special occasions feel overshadowed, especially knowing you can’t relive moments like birthdays. It’s tough on parents. It’s those little, everyday parenting tasks that get woven into the fabric of life – balancing work, social commitments, and everything else.
Look, the stuff I do, it’s amazing, truly. But honestly? Nothing, nothing compares to getting home after a long day. Just being able to quickly kiss my little one on the forehead while they’re sleeping… it’s everything. And knowing that it won’t be long before they’re waking me up with a tiny hand or a little foot? That’s the best part of my whole life, honestly. It puts everything into perspective.
He explained that once a moment passes, you can’t take it back. Even a quick goodbye before returning to work is precious because you can’t repeat it. Once you’ve said goodnight – that’s it. You can’t undo it, and it won’t be a better or different goodnight later.
‘You don’t get to cuddle, you don’t get to kiss, you don’t get to play fight – it ain’t right.’
