Priscilla Presley shares heartfelt tribute to Elvis Presley on 47th anniversary of his death
As a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions reading about the latest drama surrounding Graceland, his beloved home. Having grown up in Tennessee myself, I know how deeply rooted the state is in Elvis lore and the profound impact he had on popular culture.
On Friday, Priscilla Presley honored her deceased former husband, Elvis Presley, marking the 47th anniversary of his passing.
47 years have passed, yet there isn’t a single day that doesn’t find me reflecting on you, the businesswoman, now 79, expressed sincerely through an emotional Instagram post.
As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but be moved when Lisa Marie Presley, the cherished mother of Elvis’ sole offspring, dedicated the tribute to a soulful rendition of his timeless classic, Always On My Mind, in an appropriately poignant touch.
The video featured a black-and-white photo of a young Elvis and concluded with a black screen that reads: ‘Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977’
On March 29, 1972, Elvis Presley recorded the song “Always On My Mind,” a day following Gwen McCrae’s initial release of it as a single.
The initial version also came just weeks after Elvis and Priscilla had separated in February, leading many to speculate that the team of Wayne Carson, Mark James, and Johnny Christopher wrote the song specifically for the King Of Rock And Roll.
For a long time, many Elvis fans believed that his marital struggles served as the basis for the song, and that its composition was specifically designed to suit his unique music style.
As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but fan the flames of speculation, given that James had previously penned the iconic hit “Suspicious Minds” for Elvis Presley.
Ultimately, Carson argued that Alway On My Mind wasn’t penned for Presley, but rather for every man, and he views it as a lengthy expression of regret.
It turns out Presley released his cover of Always On My Mind as a B side to Separate Ways on October 1972, yet both songs are considered to be among his best work of the 1970s.
Over time, the song lives on, spreading through numerous cover versions by various artists numbering in the hundreds. However, Elvis’s rendition stands out as the original commercially successful version of the song.
The song, serving as an additional track to “Separate Ways”, ultimately achieved a Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying that it sold over one million copies.
Ultimately, it turned out to be a two-sided single, peaking at position 16 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, in November 1972.
In January 1973, the song Always On My Mind was promoted heavily and listed as the main track, which helped it achieve a Top 10 position in the UK charts.
Born as Priscilla Ann Wagner, Priscilla later adopted the surname Priscilla Beaulieu following her mother’s remarriage. It was during a party in Germany in 1959 that she crossed paths with Elvis Presley, who was serving there at the time.
They ended up dating much later on, getting married in May 1967, and this union resulted in the birth of Lisa Marie in February 1968.
As an ardent admirer, finding myself compelled to rephrase Priscilla’s statement: In response to recent events unfolding in Missouri, where a woman was apprehended for allegedly plotting to swindle the Presley family by attempting to auction off the legendary Graceland estate, I, as Priscilla, feel compelled to express my thoughts.
53-year-old Lisa Jeanine Findley, who is also recognized by her alias Lisa Holden and several other names, has been indicted on charges of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft following the unveiling of a sealed criminal complaint, as reported by NBC News.
53-year-old Findley showed up at the U.S. Courthouse in Springfield, Missouri on Friday afternoon, assuming the role of a public defender following her appointment.
A resident of Kimberling City stands charged with asserting that Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away recently, allegedly obtained a $3.8 million loan from a fictitious private lender. The accused claims that Graceland was pledged as security for this loan before her demise. According to the prosecutors, these accusations have been made.
Reports say that she is claimed to have warned that she would put the Tennessee property up for sale to the highest buyer if the Presley family failed to meet a $2.85 million settlement demand, as stated by officials.
According to reports from the Associated Press based on court documents, it’s alleged that Findley falsified names, signatures, and notary seals to fabricate fraudulent loan papers as part of his scheme.
Last year, following the passing of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, Riley Keough – a renowned actress who happens to be Elvis Presley’s granddaughter – now holds the trust and ownership of the family home.
Graceland opened as a museum and tourist attraction in 1982 and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Findley is facing a charge of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. The mail fraud charge carries up to 20 years in prison.
At this point, the defendant remains in custody pending her next court appearance.
