As a lifestyle expert, I’ve often seen how major life changes can impact relationships, and Priscilla Presley has shared a very personal example of this. She’s revealed that after their daughter, Lisa-Marie, was born, Elvis seemed to lose his sexual interest in her. It’s a vulnerable thing to share, and highlights how even the most iconic couples face challenges in navigating intimacy after becoming parents.
The couple had their only child in 1968, just over a year after getting married in Las Vegas. Priscilla later said she became pregnant on their wedding night.
The actress, now 80 years old, says her intimate relationship with Elvis Presley quickly declined after their daughter, Lisa Marie, was born. This event, she believes, led to his many affairs.
In her new memoir, *Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis*, Priscilla Presley writes that Elvis lost sexual interest in her after their daughter Lisa was born, and he didn’t feel the need to account for his affairs with other women.
‘I was to trust him and ignore whatever I might hear.’
When Elvis Presley was a 24-year-old international superstar, he met his future wife, who was only 14 at the time, at a party in West Germany. He was stationed there while serving in the U.S. Army.

After he came back to the US, the couple began dating. Priscilla has always said she waited until her wedding night – when she was 24 – before becoming intimate.
In her new book, co-authored with Mary Jane Ross, Priscilla Presley also denies previous allegations that Elvis Presley sexually coerced her after he found out about her relationship with karate instructor Mike Stone.
She describes Elvis’s advances as passionate but lacking his typical gentleness and care. While not forced, the encounter wasn’t characterized by his usual tenderness.
Look, that last intimate experience with Elvis… it really stung, and honestly, it’s a memory I’d rather not revisit. But let me be clear: that wasn’t *why* I ultimately decided to move on. It was painful, yes, but it wasn’t the dealbreaker.
The couple divorced in 1973. Later, Priscilla began a 22-year relationship with Brazilian screenwriter Marco Garibaldi, and in 1987, they had a son named Navarone, who became her second child.
Elvis Presley had passed away ten years prior, in 1977, at the age of 42. He died from a heart attack while at his famous Graceland home.
In January 2023, his ex-wife faced another heartbreaking loss when their only child, Lisa-Marie, passed away at the young age of 54.
Priscilla said her daughter, who had previously battled opioid addiction, felt she had no will to live after the death of her son, Benjamin, who took his own life in 2020 at age 27.

When Lisa-Marie passed away, she was still caring for her 16-year-old twins, Finley and Harper, with her then-husband, Michael Lockwood.
She and her first husband, Danny Keough, shared two children: actress Riley Keough, age 31, and Benjamin Keough.
In her new memoir, Priscilla recalled telling Lisa after Benjamin’s death, “You have the twins. You need to focus on taking care of them.” She explained that Lisa made a genuine effort to do so.
She said losing her daughter was the second most heartbreaking moment of her life, after the death of Elvis. It was a long and difficult process to accept that Lisa was no longer with her.
After her daughter experienced a cardiac arrest at their home in Calabasas, California, Priscilla made the difficult choice to remove her from life support.
It hit me the second I saw her in that hospital room… Lisa was already gone. I just *knew* it, even before the doctors said anything. It was like the air had changed, and she wasn’t *there* anymore, not really. It broke me instantly.
She was on life support, with a machine assisting her breathing and maintaining a heartbeat. However, she showed very little brain activity, and her personality seemed to have faded.
You know, Riley shared with me that she actually felt her mother’s presence leave while she was still up in the air. It was a really powerful moment. But honestly, none of us were prepared to accept it, and we weren’t ready to give up hope just yet.
Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis is available to buy from September 23.
