Priscilla Pointer, Carrie and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Star, Dies at 100
Noted actress Priscilla Pointer, well-loved for her work in horror films and TV series like Dallas, sadly passed away at the age of 100.
On the 28th of April, actress Priscilla Pointer, famously known for playing Carrie, passed away at the age of 100, missing her birthday by three weeks. She leaves behind her three children, David Irving and Amy Irving among them, as well as her granddaughter, Austin Irving.
Priscilla’s acting journey commenced on the theater stage. From the late 1940s to the early ’50s, she had numerous roles on Broadway and toured with shows like “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “The Country Wife”. However, she paused her acting career until the early ’70s. Upon her return, she appeared in soap operas such as “Where the Heart Is” and popular TV series like “Dallas”, before…
Carrie observed Pointer assuming the role of the compassionate and nurturing Eleanor Snell, who was depicted by her actual daughter Amy Irving in the movie. This marked the beginning of a lengthy career in genre films for Pointer and a recurring trend of playing her on-screen daughter’s mother, which she repeated for both the 1980 film “Honeysuckle Rose” and the 1996 film “Carried Away”. She also acted alongside her daughter in the 1980 films “The Competition” and “Micki & Maude”.
Beyond my iconic role in “Carrie,” I found myself gracing the big screen once more, appearing in a variety of genre films that resonated with audiences. Among these were “Twilight Zone: The Movie,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors,” and the lesser-known but memorable “C.H.U.D. II: Bud the C.H.U.D.” Intriguingly, the latter was helmed by my son, David Irving. While I am often remembered for my genre performances, my stage and television career left an indelible mark on the viewers of those times, especially those who cherished the art forms of their respective eras.
