Prince Harry’s ‘Second Dad’ Steps Down From Charity After 20 Years

Occasionally referred to as Prince Harry’s “second father,” this term playfully yet accurately symbolizes his consistent role in the Duke of Sussex’s life, from the tragic moment when the young prince was 12 and lost his mother, throughout his school years at Eton and Sandhurst, his military service with the Household Cavalry, and into his married life in self-imposed exile in California.

As a fervent devotee, I must share that my connection with Mark Dyer’s official, business-oriented role regarding Harry ended on Monday. This was marked by his resignation as a trustee for Sentebale, the charitable organization Harry co-established in 2006 to provide aid to orphaned African children.

It seems fair to say that the charity would never have materialised without Dyer’s guidance. 

A previous member of the Welsh Guards, who served as an equerry to Prince Charles during the 1990s, played a role in organizing Harry’s sabbatical year and joined him on trips to Australia, Argentina, and Lesotho, a country situated inland and struggling economically, upon invitation of Dyer’s friend, Prince Seeiso.

Harry was motivated by the experience to team up with Seeiso and found Sentebale together.

From the outset, one of its trustees was Dyer, known as ‘Marko’ to family and friends.

In his autobiography titled “Spare,” Harry penned down that among his father’s associates, it was generally agreed that Marko stood out as the finest, the roughest, and the most daring.

When Dyer married Amanda Klein – an American – in 2012, Harry was an usher. 

In 2018, it was Dyer’s turn to reciprocate, as his son, Jasper, served as a page boy during Harry’s wedding to Meghan at Windsor. Notably, Jasper is Harry’s godson.

According to what’s known, Marko, who is 59 years old, seems to be Archie, the eldest child of Harry and Meghan, the duke and duchess, godfather figure.

Displaying characteristic discretion, he declines to comment on his departure from Sentebale.

The charity declines the opportunity to honor him, along with the other three trustees who recently stepped down – two of whom served for just three years.

Rather than simply stating the changes, it lays out how this organization has transitioned from primarily focusing on alleviating the effects of HIV/AIDS on children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana, to a broader scope that encompasses youth health, financial prosperity, and climate resilience in Southern Africa.

For the initial time, Lily Sastry, the child of comedy legend Rowan Atkinson (better known as Mr. Bean), has openly discussed her parents’ separation, disclosing that it led her to experience periods of “despair” and “turmoil.

In her twenties, Lily experienced a great deal of turmoil and solitude. At age 30, she now has a clear understanding of where she stood and the internal struggles she faced during her most challenging times, as she puts it.

Throughout much of my life, I felt disoriented, finding a sense of familiarity only in my late twenties. I’ve often found myself caught in the middle, neither fully belonging here nor there.

In her mid-twenties, Lily experimented with burlesque dance performances, later transitioning into a singing career that her father supported financially.

In 2017, she switched her last name from Atkinson to Sastry, which is her mother’s name. This move sparked rumors of a potential disagreement or estrangement with the famous actor who played Blackadder.

Lily, currently residing in London, has transitioned into a skilled artist professionally. Last December, she held her inaugural exhibition at a modest, independently-owned gallery located within the city.

In the whirlwind of solitude, a fractured family background, and an uncharted path towards creating music while seeking to decipher life’s mysteries, I find myself grappling for self-discovery.

It’s been quite some time for me to understand my path in life and discover myself. Over this journey, I’ve worked hard to grow into the best version of myself possible. Along the way, I’ve tripped up often, suffered pain, felt lost, and experienced periods of solitude.

She mentions: ‘Art served as my beacon. The source of purpose that turned hardships into valuable experiences; while I pursued an aim, a vision.’

Additionally, Rowan and Sunetra are parents to their son, Ben Atkinson, aged 31, serving as an officer within the esteemed Royal Gurkha Regiment.

This work takes inspiration from Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s 1768 painting “The Swing,” and is a key piece of our collection. Unlike the original, it features a disgruntled woman without any elements that could be linked to fascism.

In a playful manner, expressing myself as an artist, I decided to incorporate the term “fascist” since it seems to be the common label used by activist artists when they want to criticize someone.
