Prime Video’s “winning” and “feel-good” adaptation confirmed to bring back a major star for its sequel
In the next installment of “Red, White & Royal Blue“, we can expect to see a significant actor reprising their role within the ensemble.
2023 sees the release of a film on Prime Video, an adaptation from Casey McQuiston’s 2019 novel with the same title. This movie presents a love story between the son of the American president, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez, and a British prince, portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine.
Featuring an impressive ensemble with Stephen Fry and Uma Thurman, it was officially announced last year that a follow-up to the romantic comedy is in development. However, details about the storyline have mainly been kept secret.

Thurman has affirmed that she will once again take on the role of President Ellen Claremont in the upcoming sequel. She shared with Letterboxd: “I’ll do it when it’s ready. We’re unsure about what Ellen is up to, but rest assured she’ll be involved in something!
She remarked, “I found the part incredibly enjoyable.” Reflecting on her initial experience, she shared, “Making that film was a delight… I prefer roles with a touch of fun. Ellen was fantastic; she really shone. Just thinking about it now brings back memories of an alternate, improved reality.
In its initial release, the debut movie, jointly penned and helmed by Matthew Lopez, garnered praise from critics, as indicated by a thumbs-up rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 121 reviews.
In our critique, we labeled the romantic comedy as “triumphant,” “bubbly,” and “heartwarming,” noting that it was a delightful retelling of a cherished novel. We also mentioned that it is overflowing with conventional romance elements to evoke that cozy and recognizable sensation often found in satisfyingly predictable romantic stories on screen.
In a similar vein, “Red, White & Royal Blue” is like an energetic corgi doing a backflip over a bubbly champagne tub – it begins with a lively concept and manages to pull it off superbly,” said The New York Times. Meanwhile, Variety praised the script for its witty one-liners.
In simpler terms, IndieWire praised the movie by calling it “sweet,” and they also noted that “Red, White & Royal Blue” offers a refreshing take on a popular genre. This new spin should appeal to fans of the book as well as those who enjoy light-hearted love stories.
As a gamer, I’d say: “This show is hilarious and engaging, playing with the timeless enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Unlike other series, it cleverly intertwines its love story within the intense world of modern politics, making it more than just a simple romance.” (The Atlantic noted this.)
Red, White & Royal Blue is streaming on Prime Video.
