Prime Video’s Steamy Psychological Thriller 56 Days Remains a Streaming Hit

Prime Video offers a lot of gripping thriller series, and one standout is a steamy psychological thriller that’s still popular with viewers more than a month after it first came out. The limited series features Avan Jogia and Dove Cameron, who many will recognize from their roles on Nickelodeon’s Victorious and Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie, respectively.

Cameron and Jogia are now working on more adult TV shows, and their latest project, 56 Days, is proving very popular. According to FlixPatrol, it’s currently the fifth most-watched show on Prime Video worldwide. The crime thriller, which premiered on February 18th, continues to be a top 10 hit in countries including Greece, Canada, and the United States.

What Is 56 Days About?

Based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel, 56 Days weaves together two timelines. In the present, detectives Lee Reardon and Karl Connolly investigate a potential murder following the discovery of a body. The story also flashes back to the past, showing how Oliver and Ciara’s relationship began and quickly became fraught with danger.

The series alternates between the current police investigation and the 56 days before the body was found. Because the body is badly decomposed, investigators can’t identify the person or even their gender, which heightens the mystery and suspense, particularly since the discovery was made in Oliver’s apartment.

56 Days is a suspenseful and passionate thriller packed with hidden truths and deception. The series features Dove Cameron as Ciara Wyse and Avan Jogia as Oliver Kennedy, while Karla Souza and Dorian Crossmond Missick play the detectives investigating the case in the present. Although audiences enjoyed the show, critics had varying opinions.

56 Days Is More Popular with Viewers Than Critics

Just because critics don’t love a show doesn’t mean viewers won’t! That’s certainly true for the crime thriller 56 Days. It’s been a hit with audiences, staying in the Top 10 on Prime Video for over a month, despite receiving only mixed reviews from critics. Currently, it has a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on those critic reviews.

Dominic Baez of The Seattle Times described 56 Days as occasionally over-the-top and dramatic, but ultimately captivating. Aramide Tinubu of Variety noted that although some plot twists are predictable, the show keeps viewers engaged by consistently presenting unexpected turns.

Viewers are really hooked by the surprising turns and enigmatic elements of 56 Days, which explains its continued popularity. The show has a 77% audience score on Popcornmeter, meaning people enjoyed it even more than professional critics – and that’s likely why it’s still a streaming hit.
