By 2025, Prime Video had become a major player in the streaming world, rivaling services like Netflix and Disney+. Then, one of their shows unexpectedly became a worldwide sensation, quickly surpassing everything else in popularity.
The latest season of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiered on July 16th, two years after the previous one. As the final season, it kept fans guessing about which brother, Conrad or Jeremiah, the main character would end up with. Even almost six months later, the show remains incredibly popular on Prime Video, and viewers are eagerly awaiting news about the concluding movie.
Currently, The Summer I Turned Pretty is the second most popular show worldwide. It also climbed two positions in the U.S., moving from sixth to fourth place on January 6th.
The show, which premiered in 2022, quickly gained a following. It was created by Jenny Hann, who also wrote the original novels it’s based on, produced it, and served as a co-showrunner. While initially successful, the show reached its highest point in popularity in 2025.
Following Belly’s choice of Jeremiah in the Season 2 finale, viewers were eager to learn who she ultimately ended up with. While the show largely stayed true to the original books, the author, Jenny Han, hinted at some new scenes and that the final season would diverge more from the novels.
The third season of the show concluded on September 17th with Belly and Conrad finally getting together. Their journey included a broken-off wedding, a heartfelt confession on the beach, and a romantic date in Paris. But right after the finale aired, Prime Video announced plans for a sequel to finish the story.
What Happens in The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie?
Despite the show finishing, many viewers felt Conrad and Belly didn’t have enough joyful moments together. After three seasons of a complicated relationship, and years of Conrad secretly loving Belly, fans were hoping to see Christopher Briney’s character finally find happiness. The upcoming finale movie on Prime Video might give them what they’ve been waiting for.
We don’t have many specifics about the project yet, but the script is finished. The writer hasn’t revealed what the story is about, and filming hasn’t begun. While fans were hoping for a release this Christmas, that won’t be possible.
Han explained that things were decided very last minute for the show, leaving them with no time to film the entire movie.
Han announced a new movie is coming to complete Belly’s story, feeling it deserves a grand finale only a film could deliver. She expressed her gratitude to Prime Video for backing her creative vision and allowing her to share this last part of the story with fans.
