The latest season of the Prime Video show Cross, featuring new cast member Matthew Lillard, has received mixed reactions, with critics and viewers disagreeing on its quality.
The crime thriller Cross, based on novels by James Patterson, premiered in 2024. Aldis Hodge, known for his roles in Leverage, Straight Outta Compton, Hidden Figures, and Black Adam, stars as detective Alex Cross, who teams up with John Sampson to solve disturbing murder cases. Season 2 of Cross began streaming on Prime Video on February 11th.
Okay, so the new season is finally here, and it’s causing quite a stir! Looking at Rotten Tomatoes, there’s a huge split between what critics and regular viewers think. Right now, the critics are loving it – the ‘Tomatometer’ is at 93%! They’re saying it’s the best adaptation of Patterson’s work so far, and that the stories are really captivating, fun, and feel current. It’s definitely making me excited to dive in and see what all the buzz is about!
As a big fan of the show, I’ve been keeping an eye on audience reactions to Cross season 2, and honestly, it’s a bit concerning. The Popcornmeter – that’s how regular viewers are scoring it – is currently at 60%, which is a pretty significant drop of 33% compared to what critics are saying. I’ve seen a lot of people online saying they’re disappointed with the new season, and some feel the show isn’t handling real-world issues very well. A common complaint seems to be that the writers aren’t getting the portrayal of Texas right.
Season one received a 76% rating from critics and a 64% rating from audiences – a difference of just 12%. This season, however, critics are much more positive about Cross, while viewers seem to be enjoying it less. Overall, when looking at both seasons, the average Rotten Tomatoes scores are 84% for critics and 62% for audiences.
| Cross’ Rotten Tomatoes Scores | Critic Scores | Audience Scores |
|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | 76% | 64% |
| Season 2 | 93% | 60% |
Damian Lillard appears in season 2 of Cross, playing Lance Durand, a billionaire who contacts the FBI when he begins receiving death threats after other wealthy individuals are murdered. However, the CEO isn’t quite as straightforward as he seems.
The actor is famous for roles in popular films and TV shows including Scream, She’s All That, Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, The Descendants, Twin Peaks: The Return, Good Girls, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and The Life of Chuck.
I’ve been following Josh Duhamel’s career for a while now, and he really showed his ensemble skills in The Descendants – the Screen Actors Guild recognized that with a nomination. But let’s not forget his fun turn as Shaggy in the first live-action Scooby-Doo film; the kids absolutely loved it, and he took home a Kids’ Choice Award for that role. It’s a testament to his range, honestly.
Joining the second season of Cross are new cast members Jeanine Mason, Wes Chatham, and Michelle C. Bonilla. They’ll be alongside returning actors Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, and Melody Hurd, as well as Hodge. The first three episodes of the new season launched on February 11th, and new episodes will be released each week, concluding with the finale on March 18th.
Cross season 2 streams Wednesdays on Prime Video.
