Prime Video’s Crime Thriller Scarpetta Rotten Tomatoes Score Unveiled

Nicole Kidman, a celebrated actress with an Academy Award, has successfully worked in both movies and television. Her newest project is already proving popular.

Nicole Kidman stars as Dr. Kay Scarpetta in a new crime thriller series on Prime Video, based on the popular novels by Patricia Cornwell. The series, adapted from the 29-book series, received a positive response from critics, earning an 80% rating upon its release.

Based on 25 critic reviews, Scarpetta is currently “Certified Fresh.” Although the score may change as more reviews are published, it’s a promising beginning for the series. Because the show just launched, an audience score isn’t yet available.

Scarpetta Draws Bones and Reacher Comparisons

I’m really excited about Prime Video’s new crime series! They’ve had so much success with shows like Bosch, Jack Ryan, The Terminal List, and Cross, and I have a feeling this one is going to be huge too. It feels like their next big hit is already here!

According to Aidan Kelley at Collider, Scarpetta has the potential to become one of the streaming service’s best detective shows. While the series occasionally veers into overly comical situations, Kelley believes the consistently excellent acting more than compensates for these moments.

According to Nick Shager of The Daily Beast, the strong cast—including Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose—is a major reason why the thriller about tracking down dangerous serial killers works so well.

The reviewer notes that Scarpetta, like the Reacher series, heavily uses familiar tropes. However, this reliance on established patterns surprisingly works in its favor. The show also has a dark and unpredictable quality reminiscent of the early episodes of True Detective Season 1.

The actors, including Nicole Kidman, have been highly praised. The series is a standout example of quality television, proving that compelling storytelling – especially when it feels relatable – still resonates with viewers in an era of variable streaming content.

Both Kay Scarpetta and Temperance “Bones” Brennan are leading forensic scientists – Scarpetta is a pathologist and chief medical examiner, while Bones is a forensic anthropologist. They both use science and logical thinking to solve crimes, and are known for being direct and analytical. Each character partners with an FBI agent: Bones works with Special Agent Seeley Booth, and Scarpetta with profiler Benton Wesley.

Who Stars in Scarpetta?

This crime series centers around Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a highly skilled forensic pathologist. The show jumps between two time periods, showing her career from when she first became chief medical examiner in the late 1990s to her present-day return to her hometown. Back in her old role, she investigates a disturbing murder that eerily mirrors a case she solved early in her career.

I’m really excited about the cast they’ve assembled for Scarpetta! Of course, Nicole Kidman is leading the way, but Jamie Lee Curtis is joining her as Dorothy, and Ariana DeBose is playing Dorothy’s daughter, Lucy Farinelli-Watson. Bobby Cannavale is onboard as ex-detective Pete Marino, which is great. And it gets even cooler – they’ve cast Rosy McEwen as a younger Kay Scarpetta, and Bobby Cannavale’s actual son, Jake, will be playing a young Pete in some flashback scenes. It’s a fantastic lineup!

All eight episodes of Scarpetta are available to stream on Prime Video.
