Prime Video is removing Cillian Murphy’s “intense” British period drama very soon

If you enjoy Cillian Murphy’s work, you might like his 2008 film, The Edge of Love, which is currently available on Prime Video. It also features Matthew Rhys, Keira Knightley, and Sienna Miller, but it won’t be on the service much longer, so you’ll need to watch it soon.

I recently watched this movie, and it’s based on the true story of Dylan Thomas, the famous poet, and the really interesting relationships he had with his wife, Caitlin, and their friends Vera and William. It’s not a straight-up biography though – the movie takes some creative liberties and imagines what their lives and love lives were like, especially during the time they all spent hanging out by the Welsh coast. It’s a fictionalized take on real people, which makes it a bit different, but still really engaging.

You have until February 1st to watch The Edge of Love on Prime Video. After that, it will no longer be available on the platform. Currently, it’s not streaming anywhere else, but you can still purchase or rent it on Prime Video if you don’t get a chance to watch it in time.

Critics had varying opinions of The Edge of Love after it came out in 2008. However, The Australian highlighted it as “intense and strangely beautiful,” and The Hollywood Reporter found it “deeply involving.”

The San Francisco Chronicle noted that The Edge of Love starts strong and remains watchable, but doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Variety agreed, praising some aspects of the film but criticizing its inconsistent tone.

In 2008, Keira Knightley described the film The Edge of Love as a “truly lovely story.” She explained that it’s unusual to see movies that deeply explore the intricacies of friendships, rivalries, and how groups of friends can both support and undermine each other.

I found it absolutely captivating, especially learning it was based on a real story and that Dylan Thomas was actually friends with the people involved. It really added to the experience.

Miller highlighted the special connection between the characters Vera and Caitlin, saying it’s unusual to see well-developed female characters, especially two in one movie. He particularly enjoyed working with Keira, as they are close friends.

The Edge of Love is being removed from Prime Video on 1 February.
