Pride of Britain Awards 2024 viewers are left in tears as leukaemia survivor Florence Bark, 8, is surprised by her favourite pop star Perrie Edwards
As I delve into the heartwarming tales of the Pride of Britain Awards, my admiration for humanity swells with each story I read. The courage, resilience, and selflessness displayed by these individuals are truly inspiring.
2024’s Pride of Britain Awards began on ITV on Thursday evening, leaving viewers emotional only a few minutes into the show.
In this initial part, we meet Florence Bark, an eight-year-old leukemia survivor, who was unexpectedly greeted by her beloved singer Perrie Edwards in a heartwarming video before receiving the Child of Courage Award.
In 2022, the individual who currently enjoys fame on TikTok received a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). At that moment, her family informed TopMob that she was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant, yet a unique gene mutation found in approximately 10% of cases increased the likelihood that the transplant would not be successful.
After a two-year battle with the illness which saw Florence, from Corby, win hundreds of thousands of fans online, she shared in July that she was cancer-free.
Initially diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) in May 2022, Florence, also known as Florrie, had experienced a series of infections that led her parents to seek medical attention.
At The Pride of Britain Awards, a movie was screened featuring Florrie spending a day in London with her parents, Stacey (age 34) and Andrew Bark (age 36).
Initially, they believed they were merely watching videos featuring Perrie. However, unexpectedly, the renowned Little Mix member, aged 31, appeared in person to astonish them.
Florrie was delighted as they hugged and Perrie introduced herself before they chatted away.
At-home viewers found themselves moved to tears by the heartwarming movie, expressing their feelings on X as they watched the Pride of Britain Awards. They were particularly touched by Florrie, a remarkable young girl who displayed incredible bravery and inspiration.
‘Tissues at ready #prideofbritain.’,
‘Omg, did you see the first Pride of Britain award! Florrie…….glad I had tissue nearby!’,
What makes me go through it annually? It’s the Pride of Britain! Look at that adorable little girl, Florrie. I could use some more tissues.
In just under ten minutes of watching “Pride of Britain,” little Florrie has not only filled my world with radiant light, but left me emotionally touched to the point of tears. Her inspiring courage is truly awe-inspiring.
The young girl, Florrie, on the Pride of Britain program, is incredibly courageous and has a unique personality that’s endearing. We admire her deeply, and she’s even managed to collect a significant amount of funds for charity.
For the 25th time, the Pride of Britain Awards is back, with Ashley Banjo and Carol Vorderman resuming their roles as co-hosts.
On Tuesday, Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks served as hosts for the red carpet affair, while GK Barry managed online content from her personal bar throughout the event.
Since 1999, this ceremony has been held annually to recognize and honor outstanding individuals from various backgrounds throughout the United Kingdom, who have achieved greatness in their respective fields. These exceptional people are nominated by members of the general public.
Following the creation of a shortlist from numerous submissions, the Pride of Britain judging committee selected the winners.
Before the event began, The King and Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid tribute to the country’s unacknowledged heroes.
The King referred to them as the finest among us, whereas Sir Keir described them as encapsulating all that is magnificent about Great Britain.
In my own words, allow me to express how truly inspiring and impressive I found Molly Leonard, the esteemed recipient of The King’s Trust Young Achiever award. As a lifestyle expert, I can confidently attest that her accomplishments have left an indelible mark on me. When I penned my letter to her, I couldn’t help but be moved by the pride and joy reflected in the eyes of her grandmother as she shared my words with her. Molly, keep shining brightly and making us all proud!
Apart from expressing my admiration for Molly, he also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation on the 25th anniversary of the Pride of Britain Awards to all this year’s recipients. Each of you embodies the finest qualities that our society has to offer.
The Prime Minister told the winners: ‘Britain is proud of you’.
Over the past 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of honoring individuals who truly embody the spirit and greatness of Britain during the Pride of Britain Awards.
‘These are people from all walks of life, but they all have one thing in common. They’re heroes.
These individuals might not resemble the typical superheroes with capes that we commonly imagine; instead, they blend seamlessly into ordinary crowds, looking much like everyone else around us.
However, there is a unique quality about them that truly stands out. This quality encompasses bravery, resilience, kindness, compassion, and an enormous spirit – qualities that make them exceptionally remarkable.
As a devoted admirer, I find that they possess an extraordinary ability to stir emotions within me – they fill my heart with warmth, instill hope, and swell my chest with pride. These remarkable individuals stand as proof that despite adversity, human spirit can soar to unimaginable heights of achievement.
