Presumed Innocent and the best (and worst) shows streaming on Apple TV+ right now

As a seasoned gamer and TV enthusiast who’s seen his fair share of binge-worthy shows, I can confidently say that Apple TV+ is a gem in the streaming world. The platform offers an impressive lineup of clever writing, engaging stories, and top-notch talent. However, like any service, it’s not without its flaws.

If you don’t currently have an Apple TV+ subscription, you’re missing out on great quality TV! I’m talking clever writing, engaging stories, and brilliant talent. But make no mistake, no platform is perfect, Apple TV+ does have a show we would rather skip.

If you haven’t yet watched shows like “Presumed Innocent” and “Bad Monkey,” they should definitely be added to your watch list. However, when it comes to “Palm Royale,” feel free to pass on that one! Want some more recommendations? We’ve got plenty for you!

5 must-watch Apple TV+ shows

Presumed Innocent

Presumed Innocent” stands out among Apple TV+’s top shows, and is arguably one of the best series streaming has to offer. Adapted from Scott Turow’s renowned novel, even those who read the book were unprepared for the gripping climax of season 1. The series maintains this level of suspense throughout, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. Presumed Innocent features Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty, a defense attorney accused of murdering his colleague. As the investigation unfolds, long-buried secrets emerge, making every character a potential suspect.”

The entire first season is currently available for streaming. While details about Season 2 are emerging, it’s expected that the storyline will feature a different set of characters, possibly even an entirely new cast.

Bad Monkey

If you’re looking for an incomplete series to follow, consider watching “Bad Monkey” starring Vince Vaughn. This comedy-drama presents the story of Andrew Yancy, a suspended detective who lets his temper get the better of him. However, Yancy is dragged back into action when the police department encounters a severed arm they’re eager to dispose of. The series also introduces Neville (Ronald Peet) and his pet monkey, Griggs, whose tales intertwine – but we won’t be giving away any spoilers here!

Currently, there are already three episodes of “Bad Monkey” available for streaming on Apple TV+. This means you haven’t missed much, as the entire first season consists of 10 episodes, with the final episode set to air on October 9th.

Constellation

A fully-aired TV show with every episode accessible for your enjoyment is “Constellation.” If you’re a fan of science fiction and drama, “Constellation” is definitely worth checking out! This captivating series follows Noomi Rapace as Jo, an astronaut undertaking a routine mission that takes a dramatic turn when a collision occurs at the International Space Station. Remarkably, Jo manages to return to Earth, but she finds herself in a world that bears no resemblance to what she remembers.

Constellation isn’t just smart and boasts an excellent cast, it also captivates viewers who might not typically be drawn to science fiction. In fact, I’m one of those viewers who never thought they would become so enamored with a sci-fi series as I am with Constellation.

Sugar

Similar to Constellation, the Apple TV+ series Sugar isn’t usually my preferred choice, but it seems I’ve found myself drawn to it! In this show, Colin Farrell plays John Sugar, a private investigator who takes on a case for a wealthy Hollywood producer looking for his missing granddaughter. Could she have been kidnapped? Is she in danger? John Sugar aims to uncover the truth for his client, while simultaneously battling with personal problems that refuse to leave him alone.

Listen, on paper, it may seem like a simple plot. But when I tell you there are twists, I mean it! To avoid ruining your experience, I’ll comment no further! Go stream the first season before you bump into spoilers online. Sugar also stars Amy Ryan, Sydney Chandler, Anna Gunn, and others.

Platonic

If sci-fi or intense dramas aren’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine! Apple TV+ has a delightful and laugh-out-loud romantic comedy waiting for you titled “Platonic“. This production is directed by the man behind the comedy hit “Neighbors” and features Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne in the lead roles. These two characters are former best friends who reconnect later in their lives.

Sylvia Byrne is currently married with three children, whereas Will Rogen has recently gone through a divorce. Despite not having communicated for quite some time, they quickly reignite their friendship; however, it swiftly becomes an all-encompassing part of their daily lives.

2 shows to skip on Apple TV+

Palm Royale

Instead of saying “What’s worse than a series that misses the mark?” you could rephrase it as “Nothing is more disappointing than a series that fails to live up to its potential, especially when it boasts such a talented ensemble.” And in this case, the Apple TV+ comedy-drama called Palm Royale unfortunately falls short. Featuring an outstanding cast including Kristin Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Carol Burnett, Ricky Martin, and Bruce Dern, one can’t help but wonder why they weren’t given a script worthy of their skills. Frankly, it’s hard to believe that they didn’t make better use of Laura Dern’s talent in the series. I find it disheartening.

In the year 1969, the story of Palm Royale is centered around Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, played by Kristen Wiig, a character trying to fit in with the elite social circle of Palm Beach, Florida. I gave Palm Royale an opportunity to impress me before ultimately deciding it wasn’t for me.

Invasion

I watched the first season of Invasion and can’t say I enjoyed it too much. For a sci-fi series with a great premise and so many possibilities, it simply fails to pick up and grab the viewer’s attention. Still, I did also watch season 2 (all episodes, I might add), and what a waste of time. Invasion follows an alien invasion from the POV of different characters across the globe. But it’s missing the action and drama. It’s too slow for my liking and fails to feature interesting characters worth keeping up with. For a better sci-fi adventure, watch Constellation.
