President Trump tees off on ’60 Minutes’ again, threatens CBS broadcast licenses

As a movie buff, I can’t help but notice that “60 Minutes” isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to President Trump. The commander-in-chief is definitely taking notice.

On a social media platform, Trump criticized the program on Sunday following the publication of two negative articles about his management of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and his plan to incorporate Greenland.

Every week, 60 Minutes, who are facing lawsuits for billions over fraud accusations related to their interview with the unsuccessful Presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, often criticize ‘TRUMP’ in a negative and damaging manner. However, this weekend’s broadcast takes it to a new level.” Trump tweeted.

Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS for approximately $20 billion, alleging that alterations made to a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Harris during her tenure as Vice President, broadcast in October, constituted electoral meddling.

As a supporter, I found myself in the midst of criticism alongside the President and other conservatives, directed at CBS, following the disclosure that the “60 Minutes” team had restructured my jumbled response regarding the Biden administration’s approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Over the course of his career, which includes time with ‘CBS Evening News,’ ’60 Minutes,’ and a short spell on ‘Jeopardy!’, the esteemed journalist will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Press Club this coming Saturday.

1st Amendment specialists deem the lawsuit as baseless. Media outlets routinely abridge interviews for conciseness and lucidity. Regardless, Trump is seeking a substantial amount in settlement for the case. Additionally, FCC Chair Brendan Carr has initiated an examination into CBS News concerning their program.

Trump asserted in his post that they aren’t a genuine news program, but rather a politically biased individual masquerading as news, who needs to face accountability for their actions. He believes they should risk losing their broadcasting license.

CBS did not have an immediate comment on Trump’s post.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the developments between Paramount Global and Skydance Media. Regrettably, a legal standoff seems to be blocking the path towards the closure of their proposed $8-billion merger agreement.

In my role as a follower, I’ve learned that while some leaders at Paramount have considered resolving the president’s lawsuit, the leadership at CBS News has remained firm against any such concessions. Their primary concern is the potential harm it could cause to “60 Minutes” and the broader institutions of journalism as a whole.

60 Minutes remains undeterred following Trump’s criticism, as it persists in providing thorough coverage of his administration’s policies.

On Sunday’s broadcast, Scott Pelley conducted an interview with President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih. Tragically, last week, nine children lost their lives on a playground due to a missile attack in this very city. During the conversation, they tackled topics such as U.S. aid for Ukraine, the current status of the war, and Zelensky’s confrontations with the Trump administration within the Oval Office.

Zelensky expressed complete loathing towards Russian President Vladimir Putin due to the invasion of Ukraine. Furthermore, he extended an invitation to former U.S. President Donald Trump to come and witness the devastation inflicted upon Ukraine personally.
