President of Tyler Perry Studios Steven Mensch dies in Florida plane crash
As a passionate fan of Tyler Perry Studios, I was utterly shocked to hear about the tragic loss of Steve Mensch, a man who played such a significant role in shaping the success of this incredible studio. His dedication, expertise, and infectious energy were not only felt within the walls of the studio but also resonated throughout Atlanta’s vibrant entertainment community.
On Friday evening in Florida, as reported by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the head of Tyler Perry Studios tragically passed away in a solitary plane accident.
62-year-old Steve Mensch, who’s been leading the Atlanta-based film studio since 2016, passed away. The news was first broken by TMZ.
As reported by sheriff’s authorities, Mensch was both the pilot and the lone traveler aboard the aircraft that collided with a road in Homosassa, Florida, approximately at 8 pm.
An accident caused sections of Highways 19 and Longfellow Street to be temporarily blocked off, as stated in a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office. However, all lanes resumed operation around 2:30 a.m.
The studio released a statement to TMZ, saying:
For over eight years, I had the privilege of calling Steve a cherished teammate. He was deeply admired not only within our group but also in the Atlanta community, where his warm and friendly presence brought joy to countless people. It’s hard to fathom our workdays without his constant smile lighting up the hallways. His absence will be felt profoundly. At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family as we send them our deepest sympathies.
Prior to becoming part of Perry’s studio, Mensch held the position of president at Third Rail Studios, located in Georgia, a role that involved overseeing staffing, studio development, and general operations until its debut in June 2016. For approximately ten years, Mensch was also employed by Turner Broadcasting, serving as director for their studio, location operations, and strategic production alliances.
Mensch is survived by his wife and three children.
