Premiere Hijacked! Audience in Hysterics Over Rogue Karaoke Mic: ‘Too Funny to Miss!’
On Monday, the premier showing of ABC’s upcoming series Westerners in Sydney took an unexpected turn, as it was seemingly “overtaken” or “disrupted” by a nearby karaoke event.
During that thrilling post-screening Q&A, I was left in hysterics as the vibrant vocals from a neighboring tavern unexpectedly echoed through the theater, stripping away all backing music!
At the premiere, someone who was there later stated that the microphone being used had the same sound frequency as the organizers of the karaoke event.
As a lifestyle expert, I found myself in an unusual situation recently, where I was part of a creative team from the West, performing on stage. The singer had just finished a captivating performance, but then a technical glitch occurred that left us all stumped. Venue staff worked diligently to resolve the issue, but it proved to be more challenging than they anticipated.
An audience member shared a clip of the embarrassing episode to TikTok.
I found myself at my friend’s event where their Q&A session was supposed to shine, but alas, a karaoke microphone from a neighboring pub interfered, playing on the very same frequency, as they humorously put it. It was such an amusing spectacle that I couldn’t help but share this peculiar predicament.
In an entertaining clip, the TikToker shared footage of the crowd chuckling at the slightly out-of-tune singing echoing through the theater.
According to Jack Colquhoun, who posted a comment, the venue appeared utterly puzzled and seemed unable to rectify the issue, so they were forced to cancel it. It was quite peculiar, he added.
‘He has no idea how humiliated he was,’ a user commented about the anonymous karaoke singer.
‘This was so funny it actually hurt,’ added another TikTok user.
On April 9, you can catch “Westerners” on ABC iview, a show that follows the lives of three young adults living in Sydney’s western suburbs as they embark on an unexpected string of humorous and strange escapades.

Actress Natasha Cheng portrays Cheng, a talented but struggling artist, who strikes a bargain with the Devil to conquer her artistic slump.
In the storyline, the character of Ubai Dahoud as Dulla is persistently pursued by a multitude of potential suitors, each eager to arrange a marriage for him.
Instead, Taz (portrayed by Sana’a Shaik) struggles with the prospect of residing with her parents, since her shared house has been inundated with mold to an unmanageable degree.
The show originated from Screen Australia’s Fresh Blood program, penned by Kevin Duo Han and Mark Mariano, and produced by Haven’t You Done Well Productions.
