As an ardent fan, I am absolutely thrilled and inspired by Sarah Greenhalg’s journey! Here is a woman who not only excels at her craft but also stands firm for what she believes in. Her promotion to co-anchor of Seven’s 6pm nightly bulletin, while being six months pregnant, is a testament to the progress we are making towards gender equality in the workplace.

Sarah Greenhalg, the latest addition and pregnant star in Channel Seven’s Brisbane newsroom, is determinedly holding her ground regarding her forthcoming maternity leave, following her recent promotion as the host of 7NEWS.

Earlier this year, Greenhalg took over the position previously held by Sharyn Ghidella, a well-regarded journalist and anchor, who unexpectedly left her prominent role at the network following 17 years of service.

On Mondays, the previous international news reporter will be moving into her new position as a co-host for Seven’s 6 pm evening news broadcast.

Greenhalg, 34, is six months pregnant and is set to go on maternity leave in just weeks.

Management has given guarantees that they won’t set a rigid return-to-work deadline for her following the birth, allowing her flexibility in coming back.

‘I’ll come back when it suits everybody, including bub,’ she told the Courier Mail.

Historically, women have faced significant challenges, particularly within the realm of television. Often, they were compelled to return promptly from maternity leave due to immense professional pressure, fearing that if they didn’t, their abilities might be perceived as inferior compared to their male peers.

Greenhalg had nearly abandoned the idea of becoming a mother due to concerns about its potential effect on her profession, but she was delightfully taken aback when they selected her for the position.

‘It’s something I didn’t think would be possible early in my career,’ Greenhalg said.

However, the fact that Seven elevated my position despite being aware of my pregnancy, I find it commendable. It’s not only beneficial for me, but I believe it sets a positive example for women in our industry as well.

Greenhalg has some big shoes to fill.

7News Brisbane’s co-anchor Max Futcher, a mainstay since 2018, expressed his approval of her advancement and shared his enthusiasm about collaborating with her in the future.

The prosperity of their recent collaboration is crucial for Seven’s newsroom, given that Seven West Media suffered a significant drop in profits due to allegations of a demoralizing and harmful workplace culture, which were revealed on ABC’s Four Corners, causing their annual profits to plummet by 69% to $45 million.

The sensational sacking of Ghidella, whose shoes Greenhelg will be filling, did not help.

In August, the long-time TV host delivered a farewell note to her previous employer, just days prior to rejoining rival network Channel 10.

‘Don’t call me at the hairdressers… that wasn’t the cut I was expecting,’ she joked.

Indeed, let me clarify, there are genuinely fine individuals at Channel 7. My tenure there was fruitful… Until it came to an end, it served me well.

After 17 years with the station, the 57-year-old was unexpectedly let go by Seven, during a hair appointment for an upcoming promotional event. This surprising news rippled through homes across Queensland.

The axed Channel 7 icon later said she ‘wasn’t shocked’ by the allegations made in the damning Four Corners codumentary.

The news anchor has taken over as host for the revamped 10 News First in Queensland, expressing her joy by saying she feels like she’s returning home.

On The Project, Ghidella declared the new step, expressing it as an excellent prospect. She shared that her professional journey with Ten started back in 1990.

In 1990, Ghidella began his journey in Brisbane, where hairstyles were quite voluminous. The shoulder pads, however, were exceptionally large.

Martin White, the leader at Broadcast News for Paramount Australia and New Zealand, recently expressed his delight about Ghidella’s return to Ten through a post on LinkedIn earlier this month.

Today is an exceptional day for residents in Queensland. We strongly support local journalism and strive to provide top-notch content to our viewers, a goal that resonates well with Sharyn, the leading newsreader of Brisbane, as stated by White.

‘We’re thrilled to welcome her back to 10 and can’t wait to get started.’

Ghidella is set to take over the role that Sandra Sully, a cherished Queensland native, has been filling on the Queensland news broadcast, which she’s been delivering from Sydney for some time now.

7-Network announces the departure of Ghidella, a veteran journalist with 38 years of experience, effective as of July 12th, according to a Facebook post.

Over the past four decades, I’ve been fortunate enough to establish a wide-ranging media career, including time spent at Channel 10 prior to transitioning to weekender presenting at Seven Network in 2007.

For as many years as I’ve been working in television, it’s rare to go through a day without anticipating a gentle touch on the shoulder… Now, after 38 years, the moment I’ve long waited for – that tap on the shoulder – has finally happened,” she expressed.

‘It wasn’t quite how I expected it to end at Channel 7.

While I was occupying a chair at the hair salon for work purposes, I received a call notifying me that, following 17 years of service, my employment with the network had come to an end.

Additionally, though tinged with sadness about this choice, there’s also an element of comfort. It’s no secret that the last few weeks on television have been quite gloomy and disappointing.
