In November 2023, Lottie and Lewis became engaged. He surprised her with a romantic trip to Paris, where they had been dating for three years.
After Lottie recently shared about coping with her grief following the sad passing of her mother and younger sister over a span of three years, she has announced the release of her book, which delves into her experiences. Additionally, she is planning a gender reveal.
In 2016, I, Lottie, lost my beloved mother Johannah to a courageous fight against leukemia at the tender age of 43. At that time, I was only 18 years old.
On Friday, I graced the stage of Lorraine, and as a doting elder sibling, I shared my incredible journey where I switched gears from glam to grit. In survival and instinctual fashion, I embraced a maternal role for my little ones when times got tough.
Three short years after the heartbreaking loss of her mother, she endured another tragic event in 2019 when her younger sister Félicité passed away from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 18. She confessed that she had never imagined things could become even more unbearable following her own mum’s demise.
In her recently published memoir titled “Lucky Girl,” Lottie, the little sister of One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, shares her experiences of navigating through challenging periods of her life.
Lottie and Lewis are already parents to a son Lucky, who they had in August 2022.
In conversation with Christine Lampard, she revealed the reason behind titling her book “Lucky”. She chose this title as it holds a special connection to her mother, Johannah, who she feels has been lucky in life due to her strong spirit and resilience.
Lottie mentioned that even during her illness, she could always find something to be thankful for. This sentiment has left a lasting impression on her, as it’s an incredibly impactful quality to maintain throughout life.
A significant method I’ve utilized to deal with much of my sorrow has been transforming unpleasant, sad events into something positive whenever possible.
‘Even if it’s a small positive, it just helps you kind of cope and get through it.’
She stepped into the maternal position within her family after her mother passed away, as she felt compelled to support her siblings Félicité, Phoebe, Daisy, Ernest, and Doris. Moreover, assuming this responsibility at a young age had a lasting impact on her life, shaping its course significantly.
Lottie explained: “It felt completely intuitive to me, and I owe that to my mom, as she nurtured in us all a strong, motherly instinct.”
In such situations, I find myself automatically switching to a survival and protective instinct, and instantly recognized that the smaller ones required my help. I felt compelled to do anything possible to alleviate their difficulties.
‘I found myself taking to it quite effortlessly, and this period of having responsibility transformed my life significantly. I believe it laid the foundation for all subsequent events in my journey.’
Yet, she remembered the hardship of losing Félicité not long afterwards, acknowledging the difficulty of starting all over again.
She mentioned that it was extremely challenging to realize that we would need to start over from the beginning and tackle everything once more.
Experiencing the loss of a parent is unimaginably painful, thinking it couldn’t get any tougher, but sadly, life found a way to make things even harder.
Lottie added: “It was a challenging period for all of us as a family, yet we’ve shown remarkable resilience and have emerged stronger on the other side.”
Having walked through the valley of deep grief myself, I penned this book to serve as a beacon for others navigating similar dark times. It is my hope that by sharing my journey and experiences, I can offer solace and demonstrate that, despite the pain, there is light at the end of the tunnel and happiness awaits on the other side.
She excitedly shared that both she and Lewis, aged 32, are overjoyed about the prospect of expanding their family by welcoming another child, little Lucky’s sibling.
She said: ‘Baby number 2 is on the way and we are just so excited to grow the family and to give my boy Lucky a sibling.
It’s quite a unique experience to be adding a sibling for your child… Right now, he’s almost at the age of two and recognizes that there’s a baby inside, often referring to it as “baby.” However, I don’t believe he has fully grasped its meaning yet.
Did Christine inquire as to the similarities spectators have noted between Lucky and his renowned relative, Louis?
Lottie admitted the pair share a strong resemblance and gushed how good an uncle the singer was.
As someone who has been around many people throughout my life, I can confidently say that [Lucky] stands out from the crowd with his unique mop hairstyle and rock star fashion sense. People often compare him to famous musicians due to his stylish choices, and I can definitely see why. Furthermore, [Louis] is a truly exceptional uncle; he shows an incredible amount of love and affection towards everyone in his family, particularly towards [Lucky]. The bond between the two of them is undeniable, and it’s clear that Lucky cherishes Louis for his kindness and generosity.
Previously, Lottie acknowledged that she wishes Félicité could have received the assistance she urgently needed following their mother’s passing. Now, Lottie advocates for increased support to be provided to families who have experienced loss.
She has partnered with the bereavement support charity, Sue Ryder, to assist individuals navigating the initial phases of mourning.
