Katherine Ryan shared that she had a hidden, passionate relationship with another famous person while discussing her love life in a recent interview on Wednesday.
The comedian, 42, who is expecting her fourth child with her husband Bobby Kootstra, shared that most of her past partners have been ‘pretty ugly.’
Appearing on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, she revealed she once had a romantic encounter with a well-known celebrity, but emphasized the need for discretion. She described the encounter using explicit language, stating she ‘f a famous hot guy.’
Katherine shared: ‘My husband is very attractive, but generally speaking, most of the men here haven’t been particularly good-looking.’
I once had a passionate, private relationship. I’m not going to reveal the person’s identity. If I choose to pursue relationships with well-known, attractive men, I need to be careful and maintain my privacy. They’re intelligent and would likely notice if I repeatedly spoke about it, making it difficult to repeat the experience.
‘He wasn’t that famous yet but I knew he was hot. But everyone else has been pretty ugly.’
She went on to say, ‘It seemed like the more attractive I became, the less attractive the men I dated were. Bobby is actually quite handsome, but that’s not usually the kind of guy I go for.’
‘Everyone was a psychotic narcissist and they probably say horrible things about me.’
Katherine and her husband, Bobby, whom she married in 2019 after knowing him since childhood, have two children: a four-year-old son named Fred, and a two-year-old daughter named Fenna.
She is also mother to her first daughter Violet, 16, from a previous relationship.
Regarding Bobby, she went on to say: ‘I have a complete recollection of everything that’s happened in my life. Bobby, I remember even the smallest details. Often in therapy, they suggest I move past things, but I find I simply can’t.’
‘I love him but I don’t trust him. I remember what he did to me when we were 16.’
The comedian and her husband grew up as sweethearts in Canada, but they went their separate ways for two decades. They reconnected in 2018 and got married the next year.
She recounted a story from high school: “When my husband and I broke up, I did something unexpected to win him back – I had to rely on my own resourcefulness, let’s just say, with the prom security guard. It worked – he got jealous and we got back together.” She added with a laugh, “I always think several steps ahead, even if it means going through difficult times.”
She had previously shared that she was deeply upset by their breakup, to the point where she once stayed inside her father’s apartment even when there was a fire alarm and everyone needed to evacuate.
Katherine has shared before that Bobby ended their relationship even though they loved each other very much. He felt they were both too young and needed to gain more life experience before committing to anything long-term.
During a 2019 appearance on Good Morning Britain, she admitted: ‘I was difficult to handle as a teenager. I understand why he ended things with me and I don’t hold him responsible.’
He said, “Katherine, we need to travel, we need to go to university.” He was very rational. When you’re 16 and in love, it feels like it will last forever. I responded, “What do you mean we’re not getting married?”
For the next twenty years, Katherine and Bobby didn’t exchange a single word. Then, quite unexpectedly, they ran into each other at a pub – a surprising turn of events.
She shared the story of seeing her first teenage love again after 20 years, while on The Jonathan Ross Show. She had previously described this moment during the appearance.
She recounted: ‘I was at the pub with my sister when, unexpectedly, my first love – the boy I had a crush on when I was 15 – walked in.’
It’s been 20 years since I last saw him. I was wearing an old sweater, and he looked exactly like one of the Hemsworth brothers – incredibly handsome… I really hadn’t seen him in 20 years.
She explained: ‘I was genuinely fond of him back then. When we were younger, I was head over heels for him. We were even voted Prom King and Queen.’
Bobby and Katherine went on to get a civil partnership in 2019, flying to Denmark for the ceremony.
