Dianne Buswell has addressed speculation that she and Stefan Dennis withdrew from this week’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because she’s injured and unable to perform.
The 36-year-old professional dancer revealed last month that she and her partner, Joe Sugg, are expecting their first child. This makes her the first contestant ever to compete on the show while pregnant.
However, on Friday, it was announced that she and her dance partner, Stefan, would miss Saturday night’s show because Stefan was sick.
On Saturday morning, Dianne quickly went to Instagram to deny claims that her partner’s illness was being used as an excuse to hide her inability to perform.
Just to be clear, a lot of people have messaged me thinking I’m hiding something about why I can’t dance, but that’s not true!
We would never lie, especially about someone’s health! And just to clarify, I’m doing well. Yes, I’m pregnant, but I’m also perfectly capable and feeling great!
She also clarified that procedures are in place to handle professional illness or injury, stating, “If a professional gets sick or injured, we have established protocols to follow.”
We’ve seen this happen on the show before. Last year, Lauren Oakley stepped in to dance with JB Gill when Amy Dowden was unfortunately unable to continue due to an injury.
On Friday, it was revealed that Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis, 66, and his wife Dianne will be allowed to attend next week’s show, with hopes that Stefan will have recovered by then.
Strictly Come Dancing announced on Instagram that Stefan Dennis is unwell and has been advised by doctors to rest, meaning he won’t be performing this weekend.
Following the rules of the show, Stefan and Dianne will automatically advance to next week, and they’re expected to be able to perform again then.
Stefan Dennis is unfortunately unable to perform this Saturday due to illness. We wish him a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the dance floor with Dianne next week.
Dianne shared a message on Instagram wishing Stefan all the best. She wrote, ‘Sending lots of love from Australia to the amazing @stefandennis7! You’re so strong, and I know how much this meant to you. Hoping we’re back to dancing next week.’
Dianne is prioritizing her well-being and taking things slowly, with frequent breaks, as she makes history as the first professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing to compete while pregnant.
A source revealed to the Daily Mail that Strictly Come Dancing has safety and well-being support systems in place for all those involved in the show.
Like every practice session, there were scheduled breaks for rest and warm-up. Dianne led the rehearsal, adjusting the speed to suit both her and her dance partner.
The Sun initially reported that Diane had a ten-hour rehearsal for Strictly Come Dancing, but sources have since said that wasn’t accurate.
Dianne shared her happy news about her pregnancy to her Instagram last month.
Okay, so when they announced they were expecting, it was EVERYTHING. Seriously, they used ‘Tiny Dancer’ by Elton John – *Tiny Dancer*! – and it was just… perfect. They acted like they were painting this picture together, all cute and dramatic, setting up an easel and everything. It was so sweet, I rewound it like ten times! I knew they were the cutest couple ever, but this just sealed it.
They held up the canvas for the camera, and it showed a simple drawing: two stick figures, one with bright red hair like Dianne’s, holding hands with a baby.
The couple shared that they are expecting their first child in 2026, and it will be a boy.
Joe captioned the clip: ‘Our little baby boy ❤️ we cannot wait to meet you’.
Friends and fans showered the couple with congratulations, and their co-stars from Strictly Come Dancing were among the first to offer their best wishes.
Joe and Dianne began dating after being partnered together on the sixteenth season of *Strictly Come Dancing* in 2018.
Dianne has strongly suggested she and her partner are planning to have a baby, and revealed in May that she really wants to become a mother.
