Pregnant AFLW star Renee Garing reveals skin cancer diagnosis and surgery just weeks before giving birth
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Renee Garing’s story is a stark reminder of the importance of regular health checks and sun protection. Her diagnosis of melanoma at 36, just weeks before giving birth, is indeed unexpected but it serves as a powerful wake-up call for all of us who love spending time outdoors.
Renee Garing recently disclosed that she was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer, only a few weeks prior to her expected delivery date.
36-year-old AFLW celebrity, who is very much in her final trimester, shared a serious health update with her Instagram audience on Saturday.
She posted a picture of her and her husband, Tony, sunbathing on the beach during their vacation, and wrote a lengthy explanation about her recent health issue in the caption.
At age 36, or 33 weeks into pregnancy, Renee wasn’t anticipating a diagnosis of skin cancer, specifically melanoma.
Afterward, it was disclosed that the Geelong player had previously gone through an operation to eliminate the cancer, and she’s currently progressing towards a complete recovery.
She expressed gratitude for catching it early, as it wasn’t invasive. She hoped that everything affected had been completely removed.
After removing the mole, there will be several stitches and a visible scar remaining as a lasting mark for future reference.
‘It’ll be multiple skin checks per year for a while and then yearly for life.’
Later on, Renee expressed gratitude towards Geelong FC for consistently motivating their athletes to have routine health screenings. This proactive measure allowed Renee’s cancer to be detected at an early stage.
She expressed her appreciation for the fact that during her time with the Geelong Cats, they motivated us to have regular skin checks.
In simpler terms, she mentioned that it’s probable her melanoma came from spending a lot of time outdoors, and she assured her followers that she will take extra precautions to protect herself from the sun in the future.
She expressed her fondness for basking in sunlight, appreciating leisurely moments by the pool or beach, taking strolls, relishing an outdoor work environment, and engaging in sports under the open sky.
It appears that the sum total of these circumstances has resulted in this diagnosis. Therefore, I also urge you to remain mindful about protecting yourself from the sun. Rest assured, I will pay even closer attention to it myself.
In the year 2019, Renee stepped onto the field for her AFLW debut, having previously played for Geelong in a different league, the VFL competition.
She has her firstborn, two-year-old Parker, with her spouse Tony, and they’re now anticipating the arrival of their second child as a couple.
