Predicting the stud & dud for UFC 305

Predicting the stud & dud for UFC 305

As a long-time MMA enthusiast with a soft spot for the underdog and a deep appreciation for the sport’s unique characters, I’ve been following the UFC scene closely, especially the upcoming event in Perth, Australia – UFC 305. The card is shaping up to be an electrifying night filled with top-tier fights, but my focus has been drawn to two fighters who have captured my attention for vastly different reasons.

On August 17th, I’ll be gearing up for an exciting night as the UFC rolls into Perth, Australia, hosting UFC 305. I can hardly wait to join the global crowd roaring at the RAC Arena for some pulse-pounding fights! The main event promises a thrilling middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya. The co-main event is a top-five flyweight battle between Kai Kara-France and Steve Erceg, guaranteed to light up the arena!

UFC 305 stud: Dricus Du Plessis

Among the UFC’s current fighters, Du Plessis stands out as exceptionally gifted and unconventional. Currently riding a nine-fight winning streak, seven of these victories were by spectacular finishes. He never fails to entertain and ensures his bouts are anything but dull, regardless of who he faces off against. In his recent bout against Sean Strickland at UFC 297, he earned the Fight of the Night bonus for the now-former champion, as Strickland is often not the most engaging fighter, despite his boisterous demeanor. What makes Du Plessis particularly captivating is his unusual fighting style, which somehow proves effective in winning fights that appear challenging on paper. Prior to this, he had a nasal issue, requiring him to breathe through his mouth during fights, yet he persevered and still managed to secure victories.

Du Plessis’s problem with his nose got fixed via surgery, making him even more radiant. Du Plessis managed to pull off upsets against Robert Whittaker and Strickland, earning himself the No. 1 contender spot and ultimately becoming the undisputed champion. Even though he appeared to be unsteady on his feet, Du Plessis demonstrated that he is strategic with his attacks, landing or finishing opponents effectively. Despite appearing worn out, Du Plessis proved that he isn’t as exhausted as he looks, as he can maintain a fast pace against any opponent throughout the entire fight. In his upcoming match with Adesanya, Du Plessis finds himself as an underdog yet again.

Stepping into the octagon once more, I find myself in another underdog role, eager to prove my mettle and potentially steal the show at UFC 305. The chatter around Isreal Adesanya as a formidable, unbeaten adversary is deafening, but I’m ready to silence those narratives, just as I’ve done in my previous bouts where I’ve pulled off unexpected victories.

UFC 305 dud: Tai Tuivasa

The predicted dud for UFC 305 is a heartbreaking pick because he is a beloved fan favorite. This will likely be the end of the road for Tuivasa’s career in the upcoming card. He has taken too much damage in his career, as he is currently on a four-fight losing streak where he was finished in each fight. Tuivasa has a wild story, as he started as a rugby player, who left the sport due to a gambling addiction. Luckily, he later found MMA, which probably saved his life. Tuivasa became widely known as a major knockout artist, best known for his post-fight celebrations involving drinking beer from a shoe.

Tuivasa briefly had a three-fight losing streak from late 2018 to 2019. Beginning in late 2020, he went on a five-fight winning streak, with five spectacular, knockout victories. Tuivasa’s entertaining fight style and personality made the UFC push him hard into title contention. In September 2022, he received his first main event in Paris against French top contender Ciryl Gane. In a Fight of the Night winner, Tuivasa was outclassed and brutally stopped in the third round, despite showing heart while nearly finishing Gane with a knockdown. Though Tuivasa showed he could fight, his fight with Gane showed that he may not be championship material.

Tuivasa’s professional journey in UFC has taken a turn for the worse, with three consecutive losses against Sergei Pavlovich, Alexander Volkov, and Marcin Tybura. The setbacks were particularly tough because Volkov is not known for his grappling skills, and Tybura is past his prime as a fighter. It appears that Tuivasa may have lost motivation to enhance his fighting style, as evidenced by his casual talk about an afterparty on the Embedded series. Rozenstruik is expected to defeat Tuivasa at UFC 305, given his superior striking abilities and the fact that Tuivasa’s durability has waned over time. It wouldn’t be shocking if Tuivasa decides to retire following another loss or gets released from the UFC after continued struggles in the ring.
