Predicting five surprises for the WWE Royal Rumble 2025

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble. With Vince McMahon’s reign coming to an end and new opportunities opening up, it seems like the perfect time for some surprise entrants to shake things up.

On the December 2 edition of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk gestured towards an imaginary WrestleMania banner suspended above. Indeed, it’s nearly that time again in the year. Yet, before we reach the spectacle itself, a crucial annual bout must take place first. This battle royal is none other than the WWE Royal Rumble. A night brimming with unexpected twists and turns. Given the current state of the WWE, here are five potential surprise participants for the 2025 Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumbles.

Meiko Satomura

Meiko Satomura is preparing to say goodbye to her illustrious wrestling career, as she’s planning to retire. Her final match is scheduled for April 29th, marking over three decades in the industry. She’s wrestled all over the globe and been associated with some of the most significant companies in the field.

Despite joining WWE in 2021, Satomura hasn’t been a frequent figure in the company. She wrestled for WWE only three times during their Japan tour last July and has yet to make an appearance on the main roster. It would be fitting for Satomura to participate in the Royal Rumble before she retires, as it would provide an exciting opportunity for her to engage with the up-and-coming roster who admire her, on a grand stage. However, winning the big match is unlikely, but the experience would undeniably be enjoyable.

Naomichi Marufuji

Under Vince McMahon’s absence, WWE has been gradually collaborating with other promotions, one such instance being Naomichi Marufuji. He had a remarkable match with AJ Styles in July, which saw Styles emerge victorious. Moreover, he has also made appearances on WWE programming in minor roles. Introducing him as a surprise entry in the Royal Rumble could be a thoughtful move given WWE’s ongoing partnership with NOAH, and it would offer him the chance to display his skills to a fresh group of potential fans.

Josh Alexander

In professional wrestling, Josh Alexander is currently one of the most sought-after free agents. His tenure with TNA has ended, and he’s exploring possibilities in other organizations. It would certainly be thrilling if he suddenly appeared in the 2025 Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant. Similarly, Jordynne Grace made an impression in the women’s rumble the previous year and has since joined WWE NXT. Given Alexander’s main roster caliber talent, it seems more fitting for him to step directly into either Raw or SmackDown. Inviting him into the company as a participant in the Rumble would undoubtedly be a significant milestone.

Alexa Bliss

Fans eagerly anticipate the comeback of popular figure Alexa Bliss, who last appeared on WWE television at the 2023 Royal Rumble, losing to Bianca Belair within 8 minutes. Currently on maternity leave, WWE is known for not hurrying its female athletes back too soon. Despite this, there’s a buzz of speculation surrounding her possible return. With Monday Night Raw in need of more star power in the women’s division, Alexa Bliss’s anticipated comeback could ignite excitement immediately.

Big E

The wrestling world is abuzz following The New Day segment on Monday Night Raw, leaving many questioning Big E’s future in the ring. Is his career really over, or is this plotline preparing him for an amazing comeback? If he were to appear at The Royal Rumble, it would be nothing short of spectacular, mirroring Edge’s return after a lengthy absence years ago. Witnessing him back in the ring, perhaps facing off against Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, would undoubtedly send fans leaping from their seats and eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
