Predator: Badlands” Trailer Unleashes Epic Kaiju Battle and “Alien

Initially, Dan Trachtenberg’s film “Prey” was highly acclaimed upon its 2022 debut on Hulu, with viewers appreciating its distinctive setting, intense action sequences, and gripping violence. Interestingly, a recurring criticism could be interpreted as a testament to the movie’s quality: it was suggested that it should have been shown in theaters instead of streaming. Now, Trachtenberg is back with another installment in the series titled “Predator: Badlands“, and the first trailer for this film has surfaced. The sneak peek promises a lot of action, which has been eagerly anticipated by fans of the Predator franchise ever since “Prey” appeared on our screens three years ago, fueling their desire for a theatrical release.

Instead of merely showcasing the debut trailer for “Predator: Badlands” (watch it below), this initial glimpse offers tantalizing hints at a fresh backdrop and an offbeat narrative. Unlike “Prey”, which was set in the 1700s, “Badlands” unfolds in a future on an isolated planet. The film’s hero appears to be a Predator Hunter embarking on a clandestine quest. Although the movie may still feature a human-like protagonist, Elle Fanning portrays Thia, a young woman who forms an alliance with this apparently ostracized Predator. However, it appears that Fanning’s character is not just any human; she plays an android from the Weyland-Yutani corporation, linking the film directly to the “Alien” series.

In the majority of the Predator movie franchise, the title creatures engage in combat with either one another or humans. The exception is Robert Rodriguez’s Predators, which unfolds on their home planet where the human characters are hunted as game. However, the teaser for the film Badlands presents a unique twist: the Predator protagonist confronting new, exotic creatures and even a colossal kaiju-like monster in an eye-catching scene that’s likely to grab attention in the trailer.

‘Predator: Badlands’ Is Getting the Theatrical Treatment It Deserves

The movie “Prey” made one of its rare theater showings at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, demonstrating its cinematic prowess. Unfortunately, the movie’s impact was confined to a Hulu release. Although it saw a home video release in the form of a Blu-ray disc, the financial success of the franchise’s first successful installment in years never materialized. However, the trailer for “Predator: Badlands” promises that it will be screened in all premium movie formats, including IMAX.

In the trailer, the grand-scale wars and hunts appear fitting for high-end television or movie formats. This is because the upcoming film, Badlands, will depict a Predator hunting extraterrestrial beings that have only been hinted at in previous films. Moreover, this Predator is the main character of the film, offering a more compassionate perspective than past Predators. In essence, Trachtenberg appears to be attempting something innovative rather than relying on the successful formula from Prey.

It appears as though the Predator series is revitalized once more, as the movie Badlands gets a cinema premiere and an animated film titled Predator: Killer of Killers is slated for streaming release on June 6 this year. Additionally, hints from directors like Fede Álvarez suggest potential reunions of the Predator and Alien franchises, implying a promising future for science fiction horror intellectual properties that had been faltering not long ago.
