The initial trailer for “Predator: Badlands” is out, showcasing a new path for the series.

In this instance, the Predator serves as the primary character in the movie. The young warrior named Dek, who feels isolated within his tribe, aims to demonstrate his worth independently by confronting a powerful adversary on an unfamiliar and secluded planet.

He’s assisted by Thia (portrayed by Elle Fanning from “The Great” and “A Complete Unknown”), an android from Weyland-Yutani, adding a touch of connection to the “Alien” franchise.

In the Predator series, something like this hasn’t occurred, yet it’s a commonality across film history that we rarely see. We’re referring to a timeless cinematic monster here, and there’s an unique connection between us and him.

He likened Dek to Conan the Barbarian, a character made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original Predator. However, he also pointed out that aspects of The Book of Eli and Mad Max: Fury Road can be found in our unconventional hero.

Tratchenberg noted that he’s extremely assertive, yet there’s a softer side to him too. However, when necessary, he’s capable of overcoming challenges not just through brute strength, but also by using his intelligence.

In many Predator films, there is a recurring lesson that the characters learn. This new character seems to be following a similar narrative path, although it’s subtly different and I can’t fully explain the specifics. It’s reminiscent of such stories, but with its own unique twist. The movie in discussion is called Shane, and it strongly resembles a Western genre, much like the style of Clint Eastwood.
