Now that Predator: Badlands is out in cinemas, people are starting to share what they think of the latest sci-fi movie.
The reviews are in, and Predator: Badlands is getting fantastic scores! With over 500 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a 96% audience approval rating. If it maintains this score as more people see it, it will be the highest-rated Predator movie ever, according to general viewers.
This would give director Dan Trachtenberg a perfect streak with his recent Predator films. Both Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers have been critically and popularly acclaimed, earning positive reviews from both critics and audiences – a strong start to his work on the franchise.
| Predator Movies By Dan Trachtenberg | Rotten Tomatoes’ Critical Score | Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score |
|---|---|---|
| Prey (2022) | 94% | 74% |
| Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) | 95% | 88% |
| Predator: Badlands (2025) | 86% | 96% |
The recent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes show how much the Predator movies have improved with Trachtenberg’s involvement. Before Prey was released on streaming, the series hadn’t been well-received by critics or audiences, a trend highlighted by the poorly-received 2018 reboot.
Critics and audiences have loved Badlands, praising its exciting action, overall entertainment value, and interesting new characters. Despite being the least violent Predator film – and the first with a PG-13 rating – most viewers didn’t mind the change and enjoyed following the hero’s journey to find their opponent.
The movie Badlands presents a fresh take on the Predator character, showing him as a hero for the first time. Instead of being a villain, he’s on a quest to prove himself to his clan by completing a difficult hunt. He teams up with a human ally named Thia (Elle Fanning) to achieve this goal.
Despite the continued popularity of the Predator series in the 2020s, no new movies are currently planned after Badlands. However, the way Predator: Badlands ends suggests the story isn’t over, and future adventures for the characters Dek and Thia are possible.

Plus, Trachtenberg is likely working on another Predator movie. He told SFX Magazine earlier this year that he came up with three potential ideas after the success of Prey.
“Killers is one, Badlands is two and the third one is something else.“
Now that Killer of Killers and Badlands are out in cinemas, director Trachtenberg has one final project in the works. Although he hasn’t revealed what it is yet, many believe it will be Prey 2.
While Predator: Badlands is getting good reviews, its success at the box office will be the true measure of its impact. This is the first Predator movie to play in theaters since Prey and Killer of Killers were released directly on Hulu. After a historically low October for movie ticket sales, experts predict Badlands could bring audiences back, potentially earning $25 to $30 million during its opening weekend.
Predator: Badlands is now in theaters.
