The new series on Hulu is its most popular premiere in four years, attracting 9 million viewers globally. It marks the biggest five-day debut on the platform since the release of Prey in 2022.
Following a successful release in theaters in 2025, Predator: Badlands is now making a strong impact on Hulu. The film grossed $184 million globally and proved profitable, considering its $105 million production budget.
Following its release across theaters, on-demand platforms, and streaming services, Predator: Badlands proves the Predator series still has plenty of potential. It could even serve as a model for how to successfully revive older franchises in the age of streaming.
The company didn’t release how many people watched the film. However, their second movie released directly to streaming, the animated collection Predator: Killer of Killers, premiered on Hulu before Badlands hit theaters and quickly became the most-watched title on the platform.
Interestingly, the fact that some Predator projects went straight to streaming didn’t negatively impact the box office performance of Predator: Badlands. There were concerns that releasing too many projects directly to streaming would give them a low-budget feel, but that doesn’t appear to have happened.
Predator: Badlands Is a Game-Changing Film for the Franchise
Predator: Badlands took the series in a slightly different direction by deviating from some of the usual elements fans expect, potentially signaling a new path forward for the franchise.
This movie is groundbreaking as it’s the first in the series to star a as the main character, completely changing the usual premise.
Instead of being R-rated, the new Predator film received a PG-13 rating. This suggests Disney wants to turn Predator into a franchise that appeals to a wider audience, similar to their Marvel and Star Wars movies, though perhaps with a slightly more mature tone.
The Predator Franchise’s Future Seems Secure, But What’s Next Remains Unclear
Although Disney has a good idea of where they want to take the franchise, the details are still being worked out.
With the positive reception of Predator: Badlands in both cinemas and on streaming platforms, it’s almost certain we’ll see more Predator films in the future.
It’s still unknown what direction future Predator movies will take. Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey and other Predator installments, recently signed a new contract with Paramount, but he says he hasn’t yet developed concrete ideas for future projects.
In a 2025 interview with Collider, director Shane Trachtenberg discussed the future of the Predator franchise before the release of Predator: Killer of Killers. He explained that there’s a lot of potential to tell new stories – whether through animation or live-action – with a wide range of characters, time periods, and locations that haven’t been explored before. He’s particularly excited about taking the series in directions that are unique for science fiction as a whole.
Predator: Badlands is streaming now on Hulu.
