The director of the upcoming movie “Predator: Badlands,” Dan Trachtenberg, offered an encouraging hint about possible future Alien-franchise crossovers. It’s worth mentioning that Trachtenberg has directed two Predator series films, including 2022’s Prey and the 2025 animated Predator: Killer of Killers for Hulu.
Predator: Badlands director thinks another Alien crossover will be ‘very cool’
Trachtenberg showed enthusiasm for potential future crossovers involving Predator and Alien, following Badlands, during an interview with ComicBook. He commented, “It’d really be something special!” Notably, the integration of Alien franchise elements in Badlands is intended to be more than just hidden gems or amusing nods.
Trachtenberg clarified that what unfolded wasn’t merely trivial; it involved Weyland-Yutani and played a significant role in the plot of the film. He also expressed his wish to explore additional tales that could share intricate links with this one.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I haven’t heard any word yet from the filmmaker about potential sequels or reboots of the Alien vs. Predator series, which first graced our screens in 2004 with Alien vs. Predator, followed by Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007. Despite receiving unfavorable critiques from film critics, both movies proved to be significant box office hits.
In the promotional materials for Predator: Badlands, it’s hinted that there will be numerous nods to the Alien series. One of the most conspicuous references is Elle Fanning’s character Thia, who appears to be a synthetic or android created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. For those not familiar with the Alien universe, Weyland-Yutani Corporation often serves as an adversarial entity and plays a crucial role in the overarching narrative of the franchise.
Trachtenberg’s remark might not provide a conclusive answer, but it certainly fuels the possibility of further encounters between xenomorphs and the Yautja in the future.
Title Character: Predator: Badlands introduces Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as the outcast young Predator named Dek. The film will be released in U.S. cinemas on November 7, 2025.
