Okay, let’s get one thing straight – I’m not here to talk politics. Yeah, the State Fair is happening under the Trump administration, and that is political, and it might even stir up some arguments, but honestly, I’m way more interested in comparing the music at the Fair to that awesome new ‘Power to the People’ concert they just announced. That’s what I want to dig into.
In addition, the way these events unfolded was quite informal. For the Great American State Fair, Trump asked Keith Krach, an appointee from the Trump-supported nonprofit Freedom 250, to reach out to musicians and ask them to perform.
According to artists like Bret Michaels and Martina McBride, Under Secretary Keith Krach didn’t mention the Great American State Fair would have a political leaning. While he presented it as non-political, the event is expected to be partisan and will last two weeks on the National Mall.
Power to the People was always going to be much better than the Great American State Fair
That’s why many artists, like Michaels, McBride, Young MC, and the Commodores, have cancelled their appearances at the event. Instead of live music, Trump will now be speaking. It’s even possible he might sing, though that’s uncertain.
Krach, you see, doesn’t have ties to music. He was simply asking artists to play. That was his job.
The Power to the People event is designed differently than other concerts, which should make for a much better experience for fans. It will take place on October 3, 2026, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, and the lineup of artists was carefully chosen by Tom Morello – a really important point to emphasize.
Tom Morello is a highly respected guitarist, best known from his time in Rage Against the Machine, and he’s also a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame voter. Because of his expertise and reputation, other musicians immediately recognize and respect him when he reaches out – the feeling is mutual.
Power to the People boasts an incredible lineup of performers, including major acts like Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, and Public Enemy, as well as Dropkick Murphys, Brittany Howard, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, The Linda Lindas, Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, Joan Baez, and a host of other talented artists.
Oh, and the special guest is some guy named Bruce Springsteen.
It’s highly likely the event will have a political leaning. However, Power to the People was always the better choice over the State Fair because it was organized by musicians who knew music. That setup practically guarantees a great event – the only problem is that all the tickets are already gone.
