Popular Sydney designer Michael Lo Sordo allegedly owes ‘tens of thousands’ of dollars in unpaid bills over his Australian Fashion Week show

As a fervent admirer of Michael Lo Sordo’s designs, I am both heartbroken and bewildered by the recent reports of his alleged unpaid bills. Having followed his career since his breakthrough, I have always been captivated by his artistic vision and the luxurious allure of his creations.

It is reported that the well-known Australian fashion designer, Michael Lo Sordo, is said to be in debt for a significant amount, approximately tens of thousands of dollars, due to unpaid invoices related to his Australian Fashion Week presentation.

According to the Daily Telegraph, it appears that the prominent figure in luxury fashion is indebted to vendors who assisted him in making his 2025 Resort runway show a success, as they provided essential resources.

The catwalk event initially planned for the Sydney Opera House needed to be relocated to Machine Hall because the required deposit wasn’t paid in a timely manner.

A source reported: ‘His talent is undeniable, yet it remains puzzling to many why he overextends himself financially, to the point where he struggles to meet his bill payments.’

In a modest-sized industry, it’s essential to honor your debts to the many individuals who consistently put in hard work. Neglecting to pay them fairly isn’t an option that can be easily overlooked.

Lo Sordo told the Telegraph: ‘We had a fantastic fashion week and we are incredibly grateful to all our partners in that success, and we are currently addressing outstanding payments associated with the event.’

In my dedication to transparency, I’ve found myself under scrutiny in the past due to some tardiness in settling bills, which unfortunately led to interruptions in services, difficulties with fabric suppliers, pattern makers, and even accounting firms.

Back in 2015, it was said that Chic Management successfully sued a fashion label due to their failure to compensate models who had participated in Lo Sordo’s Fashion Week showcase of the same year.

In that very year, it is said that a court mandated Lo Sordo to compensate Bright Trading Pty Ltd with an amount of $4,869, which was related to a different legal argument.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Lo Sordo for comment. 

At the AFW Le Club Lo Sordo event, the fashion house collaborated with jewelry brand Pandora and perfume maker Creed to design two unique dresses tailored specifically for the occasion.

A well-known group of fashionable individuals such as Rebecca Judd, Nadia Bartel, Jade Yarbrough, and politician Julie Bishop attended Machine Hall for the event held in May. This group is recognized for their stylish demeanor in Sydney.

The high-end fashion show drew inspiration from the Maxim-era, along with two iconic Parisian destinations at night: the cabaret club Le Boeuf sur le Toit and the popular gay nightclub Le Sept.

Lo Sordo reflected deeply on finding a way to surpass the achievement of our 10th anniversary show from last year, as he shared with Grazia at that time.

Lo Sordo is often seen socialising with his high-profile friendship group including the likes of P.E Nation’s co-founder Pip Edwards.

Last month, Lo Sordo attended an Australian influencer retreat to the luxury Osborn House in Victoria’s Southern Highlands, which was hosted by Pip.
