Popular medical drama “you can trust to deliver a decent hour of escape” gets new UK streaming home

Medical drama New Amsterdam has found itself another streaming home in the UK.

You can now find the complete five seasons of this series streaming not just on Netflix, Sky, and NOW, but also on Amazon Prime Video.

From 2018 to 2022, this series chronicles the journey of a doctor taking on the role of the medical director at one of America’s longest-standing public hospitals.

He notices that the location is run-down and the faulty administrative structures are exacerbating the problem. Determined to shake things up, he decides to disregard conventional methods and chart his own course, with the aim of restoring the hospital’s primary focus: providing compassionate care to patients.

The show was popular during its original run, although critics were more mixed on it.

A recurring observation in both favorable and unfavorable critiques is that the program fails to push artistic limits. As Vox puts it, “It seems like no one is striving for groundbreaking innovation, but perhaps there’s no need to redesign what’s already working well.

CinemaBlend mentions that New Amsterdam embodies everything audiences have grown accustomed to in the genre, while skillfully steering clear of stereotypes. It unapologetically presents itself as a poignant drama, without compromising the raw and impactful reality it aims to depict.

According to The Post NZ, the program is enjoyable and reliable, offering an hour of entertaining distraction without excessive melodrama.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the show is overtly manipulative, cheesy, and somewhat laughable, culminating in a Coldplay tune for its finale.

However, the performers make it believable, and strangely enough, the unlikeliness of the action only adds to its allure.

New Amsterdam is available to stream on Netflix, Sky/NOW, and Prime Video.
