Popular Aussie kid’s show Bluey breaks even more streaming records after topping US ratings for two years
As a lifestyle expert with a profound appreciation for quality entertainment and a keen eye for emerging trends, I must say that Bluey has truly captured my heart and the hearts of millions around the globe. Having followed its journey from the very beginning, I can attest to the exceptional storytelling, engaging characters, and universal themes that resonate deeply with both children and adults alike.
The recent surge in viewership and ratings across various platforms, including the US, is a testament to the show’s enduring appeal and its ability to transcend cultural boundaries. The fact that it has maintained its position as one of the top-streamed shows for 112 weeks in the States speaks volumes about its timeless charm.
What sets Bluey apart from other children’s shows is its unique blend of humor, heartfelt moments, and relatable situations that tap into the emotional core of families worldwide. It’s a rare find when a show can appeal to such a wide audience while still maintaining its authenticity and staying power.
The success story of Bluey reminds me of an old saying: “Good things come in small packages.” In this case, it’s a 10-minute animated series that has left an indelible mark on the television landscape.
Now, I can’t help but wonder what Joe Brumm, the show’s creator, will cook up for us with Bluey’s first-ever animated feature film. I’m already counting down the days until 2027 when we can all gather in cinemas worldwide and experience another Bluey adventure together.
On a lighter note, I guess we can say that Bluey has truly become the ‘Bark-y Bundy’ of children’s television – leaving audiences spellbound with its charm, wit, and unforgettable moments!
In 2024, Bluey became the leading canine character on Australian television, shattering viewing records on both ABC and ABC iview platforms.
Based on a recent viewer survey, it turns out that the popular show has been one of the most successful television programs in the U.S. over the past two years.
For over two years, an animated kids’ show has consistently ranked among the top ten most-streamed TV series in the U.S.
According to a report published on Comicbook’s website on Tuesday, the statistics were accumulated by Nielsen ratings, a system that monitors television audience in the United States.
Based on a survey by Nielsen, Bluey has consistently ranked among the top ten streaming shows in the U.S. since October 2022.
Over 3.4 million Australian viewers tuned in to catch the final three episodes of the globally acclaimed series in April.
The numbers are across the five major metro centres and regional areas via broadcast TV.
Viewership soared to 4.8 million as more viewers tuned in to catch up on ABC iview with the triple episode release: Ghostbasket, The Sign, and the Surprise.
According to TV Blackbox, a total of 4.4 million viewers tuned into The Sign across all viewing platforms and traditional broadcast television.
On Sunday, April 14, the broadcast of “The Sign” attracted approximately 2.28 million viewers in the metropolitan areas, accounting for a substantial 54% audience share for ABC. This means that more than half of the viewers in these regions chose to watch “The Sign” on ABC when it was released.
Bluey triumphed on the ABC’s iview kid’s channel, drawing a monumental 50.3 million minutes viewed.
In the overnight ratings for major cities, The Surprise episode attracted 1.5 million viewers, while it reached a whopping 2.6 million viewers nationwide when all channels are considered.
Following Disney+’s unveiling of the final season of the kids’ series titled “The Sign,” it has been met with extraordinary success and resembles a major box-office hit.
Initially, it seemed like the Sign marked the conclusion of the third season of the popular animated series, but unexpectedly, the creators unveiled a bonus episode prior to the scheduled break in production, taking everyone by surprise.
Over the course of seven days, the final 28-minute episode garnered an astounding 10.4 million viewings on the popular streaming service.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ratings placed Bluey’s first episode as the largest solo premiere on Disney+ to date.
According to a 2023 ratings survey by Nielsen in the U.S., Bluey ranked as the second most popular streaming program.
The series boasts approximately 150 ten-minute episodes, and on average, it attracts a staggering 1.19 billion minutes of weekly viewing time in the U.S.
Or:
In the U.S., this program has about 150 ten-minute episodes, and these episodes are watched for an astounding total of 1.19 billion minutes each week.
Each episode clocks in at approximately 133 hours and 20 minutes, and The Sign was equally popular among enthusiastic viewers.
In over 60 different nations, the Emmy-winning animated series Bluey can be watched. All three seasons of this popular show are accessible on ABC’s online streaming platform, ABC iview.
Since its debut on screens in 2018, this critically acclaimed animated show has gained popularity among both children and their parents.
Just last month, I was beyond thrilled to hear that Bluey’s very first animated movie is coming to theaters! The genius behind the show, Joe Brumm, will be penning and directing this fantastic adventure. As a devoted fan, I can hardly wait!
Brumm shared that he thoroughly appreciated delving into a more extended narrative in The Sign in Series 3. Therefore, taking this exploration to the next level by creating a full-length movie seems like a logical progression for him.
I’ve long believed that Bluey should have a feature film. I hope it becomes an immersive experience that everyone in the family can share and enjoy together.
Meanwhile, Brumm shared an open letter with his audience, informing them that he was deciding to depart from the program, a news that left fans heartbroken.
He verified that The Sign serves as his farewell for the television series, since he is now devoting himself to Bluey’s initial motion picture, slated for global cinema debut in 2027.
If there had been a possible fourth season, I would have continued my role in the TV show. However, I’ve chosen to step back for now.
If I find myself struggling to continue multiple seasons on my own, The Sign will signal the end of Bluey’s TV journey and I have written it that way.
Elsewhere in his message he reassured fans that the show will go on without him.
He clarified that this isn’t a declaration that the series has ended, but rather a statement indicating that his attention will shift towards the movie.
The director shared that both his Bluey team and his creative allies have stood behind him as he chose to relinquish his role in the TV series.
He expressed gratitude to parents and kids globally for opening their households to the widely beloved program.
‘The whole experience has been an impossible experience to describe,’ he said.
