As a movie enthusiast, I’ve witnessed CBS shine brightly throughout the decades with some truly captivating shows. One of their most successful franchises is undeniably the universe built around “The Big Bang Theory.” This has led to the creation of two enticing spin-offs, namely “Young Sheldon” and “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.”
CBS, a subsidiary of Paramount Global, enjoys an added advantage in this digital age. With the streaming network Paramount+ at their disposal, they can effortlessly distribute their series to a wide audience. Speaking of which, Paramount has also made waves with their hit show, “Yellowstone,” and its spinoffs.
As a devoted cinephile, I must admit that this past year has been quite a rollercoaster for CBS fans like myself. Among the significant shake-ups, the network’s decision to abruptly end the much-loved series “Blue Bloods” left many viewers disheartened. Just last month, the spinoff shows of “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International” followed suit, despite plans for a show centered around the CIA being in development. The reason behind these cancellations, as I’ve come to understand, is a surge in production costs and the need for reallocation of resources. It seems another show has succumbed to these recent CBS adjustments.
Poppa’s House Is Being Cancelled
The Show Had Only One Season

The comedic series titled “Poppa’s House,” which premiered in late 2024, will not continue for additional seasons. This CBS show centers around the main character, a radio talk show host named Poppa, who juggles his professional life with parenting his grown son. The creators of this series are Kevin Hench and Damon Wayans, and it stars Damon Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Essence Atkins, Tetona Jackson, Caleb Johnson, River Blossom, Wendy Raquel Robinson, and Geoffrey Owens. The final episode of the show will air next week on Monday, April 28.
By the specified deadline, CBS has decided to discontinue “Poppa’s House.” This is the only new series that the network chose not to renew. However, they did extend the run of “Matlock,” “NCIS: Origins,” “Watson,” and “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” Although it performed fairly well in terms of ratings, its viewership was less than comedies such as “Ghosts,” “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” and “The Neighborhood.” Despite being asked to cut costs to improve its chances for renewal, it still didn’t meet the criteria for continuation.
What This Means For CBS
New Shows Struggle On The Network

The shutdown of “Poppa’s House” underscores the challenges CBS has been facing lately. Production expenses have put the network’s comedy shows in competition with each other, and not all were able to reduce costs effectively. This tough environment for new series means that it will be intriguing to observe how CBS responds, whether they decide to focus more on current shows or alter their strategies significantly in another major way. Regrettably, “Poppa’s House” experienced the adverse effects of this hardship.
