Pop icon’s daughter says her dead pets will haunt Richard Gere for ‘breaking promise’ on $10million childhood home

Paul Simon’s daughter, who is also a singer, criticized actor Richard Gere for selling their $10 million childhood home to property developers. These developers intend to knock down the 1930s mansion and construct a new housing development on the site instead.

30-year-old Lulu Simon criticized actor Richard Gere on Instagram on Tuesday, accusing him of breaking a promise he made to her family concerning the management of land when he purchased the New Canaan, Connecticut property from musician Art Garfunkel and his wife Edie Brickell in 2022.

In her recent post, Lulu asserted, written in capital letters for emphasis, “For anyone questioning my feelings towards Richard Gere, let me clarify: I still harbor strong dislike for him!” This statement was accompanied by a selfie and a screenshot of an article about the demolition of his home, which faced opposition from preservationists.

She asserted that taking care of the land was a prerequisite for Gere’s acquisition, yet she didn’t disclose any additional information regarding the supposed contract.

She went on to say, “He acquired the house I grew up in. He vowed to maintain the property as part of the deal. However, he never moved in and instead sold it to multiple developers, splitting it into individual parcels… I despise him!

In a second post, Lulu issued the Pretty Woman actor a chilling warning.

I expect the memory of my deceased pets in the backyard may cause discomfort for you, growing steadily until it leads you into a gradual and relentless insanity.

The label appeared next to an aged photograph of Gere, superimposed onto a collection showcasing several of her deceased pets.

Subsequently, another post emerged, featuring a humorous meme depicting a frog seated before a vibrant sunset backdrop accompanied by the phrase, ‘Time eventually vanquishes your adversaries.’

The posts were eventually deleted around 18 hours after they were published, according to Realtor.

A representative for Gere has not yet responded to a DailyMail.com request for comment.

Back in 2024, October found me closing a secretive off-market transaction on a magnificent six-bedroom, seven-bathroom abode that once belonged to Simon and Brickell – all for the grand sum of $10.8 million! And guess what? Just a year later, I’ve managed to offload this stunning property to some savvy real estate developers for $10.75 million. Truly, being an obsessed fan has its perks!

Later in May, it came to light that the old mansion was set to be torn down, paving the way for a nine-building project on the property.

The news arrived following Geres’ move to Madrid with their spouse, Alejandra Gere (aged 42), a Spanish publicist. This step enabled them, along with their kids, to live nearer her relatives.

The pair have two boys, Alexander (age 6) and James (age 5), together. Alejandra has another son, Albert (age 11), from her previous marriage with Govind Friedland, while Gere has a son named Homer (age 25) from his past relationship with Carey Lowell.

In April 2024, Geri shared with Vanity Fair Spain that for Alejandra, it would bring great joy to reside nearer to her family, long-standing friends, and cultural roots.

‘Since she graciously provided me with six years within her realm, it’s only right that I reciprocate by offering her at least another six years in my world.’

Alejandra later shared they plan on moving back to the US in a ‘few years.’

Like Gere, Paul Simon also made a loss when he sold the property.

In 2002, the artist known as the Sound of Silence purchased a residence in Brickell for approximately $16.5 million, as reported by Town & Country.

In 2019, they tried to find a buyer for their Georgian-style mansion, priced at $13.9 million, but no one ended up making an offer.

Over the following three years, the price that was being asked for the property varied, until Gerald finally bought the 31.8-acre parcel in the year 2022.

Gere had originally sought to convert the majority of the land into a farm.

At a 2023 Planning and Zoning Commission gathering, attorney David Rucci for Gere reassured the commission that the historical site wouldn’t be transformed into business property.

‘Four or five neighbors have contacted me expressing their concern, as they thought my activity might involve a large-scale business. However, I want to clarify that this is not the case,’ Rucci explained back then, as reported by the New Canaan Advertiser.

‘Being raised on farms themselves, these individuals hold a deep passion for agriculture and are eager to share that with their children. Consequently, farm-related matters hold significant importance to them.’

Despite its impending demolition, specialists from Hudson Valley House Parts in York have been carefully removing unique architectural elements from the property, intending to reuse them elsewhere.

In the spirit of transparency, I’m excited to share that our company showcased a captivating Instagram Reel in May, offering a glimpse into our expansive premises and the rich historical aspects we managed to preserve during our renovation process.

Over the last month, our team has been captivated while working on-site at this property, carefully recovering numerous architectural features. This is what the company communicated.

Originally belonging to Richard Gere, who himself had bought it from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, this 1930s house is set for demolition. The plan is to subsequently divide the 32-acre land into nine spacious plots.

Real estate plots are expected to span roughly 2.2 to 4.8 hectares. These properties will be vacant, providing potential buyers an opportunity to construct their ideal homes right from the start, according to CT Insider’s report.
