Poldark’s Aidan Turner talks “refreshing” sex scenes in new steamy drama

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for binge-watching captivating dramas, I eagerly anticipate the premiere of “Rivals” on Disney+. Having immersed myself in countless hours of TV shows and movies over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate the intricate nuances that make a story truly engaging.

Aidan Turner has spoken about filming sex scenes for the new racy drama Rivals on Disney+.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t contain my excitement to step into the shoes of the iconic character, Declan O’Hara, portrayed by a talented Irish actor, in the eagerly awaited TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s beloved novel bearing the same name.

During a private conversation with Digital Spy, Turner expressed enthusiasm upon reading the scripts, feeling an immediate desire to contribute to the high-profile, multi-character drama production.

As a devoted admirer, I had heard about Jilly Cooper’s novels, yet I hadn’t ventured into them until now. When the opportunity to be involved presented itself, I couldn’t help but think, “At last, I’m a part of this captivating literary world.

Experiencing it as enjoyable, there’s also an element of excitement tied to the intimacy. Sexual encounters can take various forms, and each relationship and dynamic adds a unique layer to this adventure. It’s captivating to observe these differences as well.

Despite having portrayed intimate moments in the 18th-century drama “Poldark,” Turner commented on the sex scenes as follows: “We approach it differently, and it feels invigorating.

In simpler terms, Turner’s fellow actor, Nafessa Williams (portraying television producer Cameron Cook), noted that the series delves into aspects beyond just sexual themes. She plays a role that interacts frequently with Turner’s character Declan at the fictional broadcaster Corinium.

During the promotional event for the show, she mentioned that while sex is an aspect, it’s a minor one. To her, the focus was on Cameron being intelligent and courageous.

“I will say there’s a lot of balance within the sex. Also, I would say for my character in particular, she owns her sexuality. She is very powerful in how she approaches it. To me, that stood out.

I’m not hesitant when it comes to including sexual content in my stories, as I believe that if it serves the narrative, I should portray it honestly as a storyteller.

Rivals premieres on October 18 exclusively on Disney+.
